In my opinon this offers is uselees meaningless and just a lip service. Like mention by john1002 and Gordon Hose " those the problem lies with if the information is wrong and the fact that if the company concerned says they are right EVEN IF A MONKEY could see they were wrong you will ask them to go down the ICO route which in most times can take up to 6 months due to how busy they are". Not worthy at all.
Provide even a single eveidence that Experian reps here has assisted a single person to coreect his data.
If you think Experian and other CRAs companies are honest and good companies not just profit oriented on the expense of ordinary people:
Why it is so easy and instant to apply online for free trial but when people are trying to cancel it they will not be able to do it online or by email. The only similar practice that I could think is tthe dodgy online casinos who unethically will try to trap uninformed people with easy entry but deadly exit, unless you could prove it otherwise. There have been some people have been reporting in this forum regarding this crook practice.. Are peole be able to cancel it using Experian Reps in this forum ?
Why there are so many people have been reporting in this forum the inaccurate data hold by the CRAs. Are they all bad, refer to their posting history if thea are bad? Where is the point to maintain the data which have been proven inaccurate and cause trouble to people.0 -
Emailed.... No reply! Thanks for the help!
Not to mention the fact that I keep getting credit scores on my Experian file I didn't even pay for, the team at Experian have no clue why! Also, I get a completely different screen if logging in before 7am, which is when the random score decides to show up.
No charges on my account!0 -
billybear1 wrote: »This is the exact point that needs to be addressed. How long does it take for a default to be registered? I bet that is done via a quick update. EXPERIAN however allow the data controller to twiddle their thumbs waiting for the monthly update (dubious as to whether it is monthly, I have had things with companies left months if not over a year without and update!!) before they will do it.
In my opinion if EXPERIAN are aware that the account is settled, by the letter of the law (the data protection act) should they not update it immediately in order to reflect the true state of the account?
Billybear, the data protection act says that credit reference agencies CANNOT amend the data, because they don't own it and are not the data controllers. The Experian rep made that point in his reply.
So the only route to get data corrected is to hassle the lender who has reported the incorrect data. There are timescales within which they need to respond to your queries, so if they don't, then contact the Information Commisioner to log a complaint.
It won't be quick so won't help with your mortgage application situation:mad:, but it might give you some satisfaction.:D
I've never looked into it but the idea of lenders having to pay for mistakes sounds good to me. The small claims court would be a very easy route to go down if necessary.:(Karma is a wonderful thing.0 -
A case in point. I have been waiting almost 3 months for Experian to correct info on my credit file. HBOS erroneously linked my address to my ex. (Never lived there - no financial links). I advised all 3 CRAs. 2 corrected - Experian contacted HBOS who confirmed their erroneous data!
After pestering HBOS non-stop (and why should I have to!) they emailed 3 CRAs admitting their error.
Experian still to get back to me confirming they are changing the data held.
No accountability or recourse whatsoever!DF0 -

- How about the time (including opportunity cost), the cost for the phone call, that people have spent to correct that data ?..
- As they acknowledged the error, the CRAs shall ask the lenders for compensation and pass it to the victims. Keep in mind the victim never ask to record his data, the party who keep that data have to be held responsible and need to pay compensation. The compnsation shall include all the cost, opportunity cost, psichological effect due to not be able to get credits, creadit cards, etc.0 -

And this is exactly the point I was making. The data controller confirms the (wrong) data is correct and there's absolutely nothing anyone can do, other that waste their time and money chasing people up for a mistake that wasn't caused by them. It's ridiculous.
CRA's will always side with the lenders no matter what. OUR information should be free, and the process for getting incorrect information corrected needs to change. It won't though, cos the lenders and CRA's are all happy rolling around in our cash.0 -
I can confirm that Experians system to their end users is actually EXPERIANcing a glitch at the moment which means the live data feed VS the data WE PAY FOR is incorrect. They are hoping to have it rectified IN A WEEK or so.
SO what exactly am I paying for at the moment Experian? My file isn't updating!0 -

You will never convince me that the CRA's are here for the consumer. Why would they be?
About 3 months ago I opened a NatWest 1st reserve with Debit Card account. The reason. It does not report to the CRA's and as I disapprove of this it is an ideal way to get a debit card.
Perhaps James (Experian Rep) could tell us how much it would cost per year to be able to use their "system" as a lender? I bet Experian wouldn't even say. I expect it is "confidential" but I can confidently guarantee it's more than £14.99 a month.
So it is pretty clear who Experian really care about. The consumer paying £14.99 a month or their main bread and butter, the lender paying way more.
All this legality spiel is just lip service. Just change the contracts with your lenders Experian so that the consumer has more control about the data you are holding about them. It isn't down to legalities it is down to the contract you spin with your service subscriber at the end of the day.
Anyway James don't forget let us know how much it costs to access you system as a "lender". I am dying to know.0
