I would think it's quite obvious. He is countering what he believes is a bias towards a view he doesn't agree with. I'm sure the posts of many members of this forum would be more moderate if the forum as a whole hadn't split into two rival factions. Personally I think he provides a beneficial counter-point to some of the rabid ramping on here.

If Graham was just negative on house prices I'd agree with you but he's negative on everything, even stuff that the housing bulls have no VI in. He dodged my remark about depression but in some ways I feel he revealed himself a little. In answer to GD's question about whether I know what depression is, 'no, probably not because I'm relieved to say that I generally have a balanced outlook and sunny disposition' but I'd go on to comment that as Graham made that sort of a comment that perhaps he does know what depression is.

I think Pobby used to come on here and post a lot of very depressing stuff and has since disclosed that he was suffering from mental health problems. The board rallied around him and wished him good luck. It seems that Graham is following the same path and so I hope he finds the same help as Pobby.

Graham, there is no shame in seeking help for depression. There is no more shame in having a mental health issue as there is in having a physical health issue.

I'm assuming you'll come back with some glib sort of comment but you need to sit down with yourself and see that you're in denial. Just look back through all of the threads you have created, it's devastatingly obvious that you need help, mate.

Besides which, someone who points out the lottery is a good way to lose money might not be espousing a positive and joyful view but what they're saying is still valid.

He's made, on average, 16 depressing posts every single day for the past 7 years. If he's not on the MSE payroll I'd be very worried about his mental wellbeing.

  • You obviously don't understand what depression actually is.

The irony is those of us who seek the truth about the global financial crisis are the happiest bunch.

Just because G.Devon doesnt look at the world through rose tinted specs doesnt mean he is depressed, more that he is happy to know the truth.

If you dont like depressing threads why not look back at all Hamish threads from years ago about green shoots and the crisis is not getting worse its going to be over soon:rotfl:

Aha, so we have 'Graham_Devon' who only posts negative topics and we have 'HAMISH_MCTAVISH' who only posts postive topics. Both have tens of thousand of posts between them.

I think it's reasonable to assume that if they were real people with real opinions, they would have a mixture of positive and negative opinions on the different topics that have been discussed.

I smell a conspiracy. I'd be willing to bet a few quid that, in the early days of the forum, they were tasked by MSE to encourage debate.

I hope that's the case anyway, otherwise it's just weird.

Not really. Hamish has been trying to say the global crisis is not that bad and will be over soon for years now. This is why he tries to post positive news about recovery and green shoots. He is always wrong though.

He loves to post negative threads about gold and silver saying they were going to crash soon 100% guaranteed. Again he is always wrong.

Yes Graham posts mainly negative but its nearly always true, thats the difference.
