Cat toys

If you really want to entertain them get a small Christmas tree and decorate it with baubles! My cats love to remove each and every bauble off the tree, I gave up this year and took it down after a week. But a couple of days ago one of the cats appeared with a bauble dangling from it's mouth, it's one of the baubles I had up Christmas 2010 so goodness knows where he'd been hiding it!

same here - I couldn't figure out where he had found it until I saw him with another different one a few days later & realised that he had discovered a way of getting open a cupboard door then ripping into the side of a box to get to the Christmas decs.
And another vote for a laser pen pen - they dash up & down after it for ages - brilliant exercise.
I know that won't help you while you're asleep or out but they are a worthwhile purchase if you don't already have one. 0 -
For interactive play nothing beat "Da Bird" in our opinion: http://www.da-bird.co.uk/
For non intervention a simple blade of plastic grass keeps our wee madam occupied for hours.0 -
All my cats and kittens (when I have them) love little mice, which I think you have already discovered. However recently I have come across a toy called a Kickeroo marketed by 3Cs Pet Supplies. It was very reasonably priced at £3.50. Frequently my cats will play with a toy when it is new then get bored of it but this one is still a favourite 6 weeks later.

I would be very careful allowing unsupervised play with anything which is string-like eg shoelace, ribbon etc. Cats will eat them and I have heard of them getting a long length of them into their throats and choking.
