Cat toys

Options
I have two four year old male cats who for various reasons have to be house cats. They have plenty of toys however after a two year battle with acute gingervitus we have finally got our smallest cat back to full health and its fair to say full mayhem!

My bathmat has been almost destroyed this week and i came downstairs earlier to find a cat sat at the bottom of the stairs covered in shredded loo roll with a loo roll unravelled all the way down them (he is still insisting it wasn't him!)

We spend a good few hours a day playing with them during which time they love the mice and various strings but I am looking for something to keep them amused whilst we are at work or asleep!

To be honest I am quite loving the chaos as they are rescues with severe issues and after all the health problems its quite nice that the biggest issue is some shredded loo roll :rotfl::rotfl:

I had one who liked to do exactly that, shred loo rolls, hence why I buy the cheap stuff. We lost him this time last year - he was 4 1/2 or so. Still have his brother and another old gal. They both go outside now and do their "patrols" they both Meow and talk to me and love the grooming and tummy rubbles as I call them. One washes me as I comb his long hair. Acts like a puppy dog as well. Have you tried getting some feliway in diffuser format? It can help calm them down. I switch it on every few days and the pheremones help get the cats behaviour better.

in fairness the cat has never shredded a loo roll before, maybe its just the andrex that riled him? (special offer and cheaper than morrisons!)

We can't have feliway due to my severe asthma and it's not a behaviour issue he just wants to play! He has spend the last three years of his life either dealing with serious health issues or being abused and neglected by his previous owners and now he is finally back to full health.

If you really want to entertain them get a small Christmas tree and decorate it with baubles! My cats love to remove each and every bauble off the tree, I gave up this year and took it down after a week. But a couple of days ago one of the cats appeared with a bauble dangling from it's mouth, it's one of the baubles I had up Christmas 2010 so goodness knows where he'd been hiding it! :o

Seriously though, we've got all sorts of toys and a big 3 storey cat gym, they get played with and pampered all the time but they still prefer to shred the loo paper or flick things off tables or drag shoes round the house by the laces.

Best thing you can get for a cat is a laser pen...My Daisy chases the red dot around like a cat demented...

  • mine dont like toys that cost real money. Foil balls, bottle caps and paper bags are appear to be more fun than anything that comes from pets at home. Apart from laser lights. That is cat toy holy grail.
As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again
  • our cat goes crazy for ping pong balls. I think we bought 6 for 99p and it's given him hours and hours of fun. Much cheaper than the balls you buy in pet shops

we have a 6ft cat tree with levels, boxes and a three scratching posts - would an activity centre be much different?

forgotten about ping pong balls - my mums tortie loves subuteo balls! Will look into a laser pen but I want something for when we are out
