foreign body in food

I'm not sure if i am posting in the right place so feel free to move

I bought a nacho kit from morrisons at the weekend and when i went to use it i noticed something brown in the pack of tortilla chips, at first glance it looked like a cockroach

I don't know what it is but it certainly shouldn't be there. It put me and my partner off our tea which was a waste of money as we were cooking it at the time. we were about to have the nachos as a starter.

I phoned discovery foods that make the kit and they said they would send me a prepaid envelope to send it back in. the prepaid envelope arrived this morning.

Should i send it back to them? what happens if it gets lost in the post or they say it gets lost in the post and deny all knowledge? would i be better off returning it to morrissons - although i don't have the receipt as i don't keep receipts for food shopping.

i would like some compensation because we did not eat our tea - 2 x m&s pizzas that were approx £3 each and the nacho kit was about £2-£3 aswell. also because had we not seen the foreign body it could have got covered in salsa and cheese and been eaten!

The clear pack that the tortilla chips and the foreign body are in has not been opened and i still have the box.

  • Phone Environmental Health as well. Get them to inspect the body before you send it back. Discovery foods could sweep it under the carpet and forget abotut it. If I was you I would definitely contact Environmental Health. It shouldn't be there and they should be investigated. Let us know what happens

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Name Dropper Combo Breaker
My brother was downing a carton of orange juice made by morrisons, he then got a strange taste and spat a mouthful out in the sink, we then cut open the carton and poured in sink to discover what looked like a fish??? He was then sick bigtime. We took photos and started e-mailing papers etc, no joy. My mum being the fool she is then decided to bag it up and walk into morrisons with it, they wouldn't even get her the manager, all they gave her was a tray of delmonte orange juice. We were all fuming as they also took the "fish thing" too. My advice to you would be to kick off as much as poss and as above contact enviromental health. Take lots of photos and its worth a try with the papers too. Also tell Discovery foods you plan to do this as may make them pay up with some compo quicker. Good luck. BTW my brother now doesn't drink from a carton anymore!

i dont think it is a cockroach anymore by the way, thats just what it looked like at first

i may be just a burnt sheath of corn or something similar
  • My mum drinks the small Ribena bottles and found white lumps floating inside it. I rang the enviromental health ASAP!!. Had a guy come round the house very quickly indeed, firstly he asked me a load of questions and would i take it to court etc etc  but he took the sample and sent it off to the lab. It took a good few weeks as the E.H got in contact with the Ribena ppl and we had 2 letters with updates...turned out the top had'nt been screwed on at the factory - i think it was mould spores!!!...No action taken from E.H and we were given a £5 off voucher for our next purchase from ribena...
  • I found a 4 inch piece of soft green plastic that looked dirty in a jar of Spanish Chicken 'Chicken Tonight'. I had just poured it over 2 pieces of fresh chicken which I then had to throw away. Ive had the jar and offending object on my sideboard for 2 weeks now because i'm still deciding what to do about it.

not sure what it is but it definitely shouldnt be there
  • My mum bought a bag of baby cotton balls from tesco, it was to bathe her eyes as she had some kind of infection, anyway she opened up the bag and this big huge wasp type thing came flying out, it must of been sleeping or something. She had to run around the house catching it. She went back to Tesco who offered apologies etc and offered a bunch of flowers from the floor. My mum was livid, that could of been a mum using them on her baby and i wouldn't fancy running after a wasp when trying to bath a baby at same time, so moral of story is always pursue!

Think in the end she got £50 vouchers which she was happy with
Baby number 2 due April 2010, were having a girl!!! :j
