Not at all, people here have been so rude because shes not from here originally and is a Non Brit. I don't care what people think as shes my choice and shes a genuine nice person.

If we get married in a Registry office can we say whether we want to be married by a Male or Female? Or do we have no Choice?

So now we're all racist? I don't think you'll find anyone's been rude because of her nationality but because you clearly have no idea at all about marriage. You throw in pre-nups because friends think it's a good idea - what sort of message does that give? What the heck does it matter what gender the registrar is? In the unlikely event you're not a troll, try going over to the marraige board and seeing the sort of thing people there ask, then re-read your own questions and figure out why people here may not be taking you seriously. Just don't play the race card

I think the OP meant "here" as in where they live not "here" as in MSE forums. Could be wrong, though....

Spend what you can afford but don't imagine an expensive wedding will make you happier or more married.

So very true, my big white wedding cost a fortune and the marriage lasted a couple of months short of 6 years.

Second wedding, my dress cost more than half what we spent altogether and only about 10 people were invited (close family). Married for 27 years.

To get any better if there was a next time i'd have to elope. :rotfl:

I agree. From my experience of friends and family, the bigger and flashier the wedding, the shorter the marriage has lasted.

This was very true for me. Had a big white wedding, the marriage lasted just under 8 weeks (seriously).

Blackstar, best thing to do is to call your local registry office, I found my local one to be really nice and helpful.

When we were planning our wedding, we hadn't been married before, so the registry office ladies had lots of daft questions from me, I had no idea about that side of things!

Apart from the registry office costs (they will give you a full breakdown of their charges, any other things you want to have are extras. Wedding dresses, suits, rings etc can cost as much or as little as you want to pay. You don't have to have a single guest there if you don't want to! No evening reception, no DJ, nothing unless you want it!

And I don't think you can pick male/female registrar, I think it will be whoever is on staff that day :)
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

Are you in any way religious? The church will expect a reasonable donation. About £500.

    .

Not necessarily, my church suggests a voluntary donation of 100 (sorry, pound sign doesn't work on my keyboard). It will differ with each church, so you must ask (or see if they have a website - mine does with all the info on).

ETA - posted this before reading the rest of the thread, sorry, seems a bit irrelevant now!

PS you can get in trouble for marrying someone just to get them a Visa...no matter how 'genuinely nice' they are. By the by, you might want to work on that description - I don't know anyone who can't think of something better to say about their beloved fiance than 'nice'!

Yes I agree but that is on top of the compulsory bits of £321.50. http://www.yourchurchwedding.org/your-wedding/the-cost-of-church-weddings.aspx

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
