Hello everyone,
My Fiance and I are getting married soon and we are just checking out churches but don't know how it all works.
So can anyone give us some advice how does it work? Whats the cost etc? Do you just call up a church and ask them how much they charge etc? Is a registry office expensive? Can you book up? etc?
Thanks in Advance

Are you in any way religious? The church will expect a reasonable donation. About £500.
It is quite cheap at a registry office. £100 at the local registry office here. £25 booking fee and £75 ceremony fee. The notice will cost £33.50 each and a £3.50 fee for the marriage certificate. You have to book.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Will a Church let you get married there if you are not a member of their church?
Right, so not too bad then. About £200 in total. What do you need to get married? Like certificates, as my FIance is not from the UK orginally. Is there normally a long wait for a booking?0 -

If you do not regularly attend the church then you may find it difficult to get permission to marry there. Some will ask for family connections such as parents/grandparents who got married there (this is what my sister was asked to provide recently). You would also be asked to attend a number of church services prior to the wedding to show your commitment to the church.
You are unlikely to be able to book a wedding at short notice at a church.
With a civil wedding you can get married after 15 days of registration. You first need to make an appointment to Give Notice of your intention to marry. You need to take documents such as passport/birth certificate and proof of residence and also any documents relating to divorce if that applies to you. Is your wife to be from outside the EU? If so then you will have to give notice at a Designated Register Office a list of which can be found here. If she is from within the EU then you can give notice at your local register office. There will be further documents regards he will need to provide which are listed on that page.
The best thing to do is look on your local council website for details, you should be able to find the prices there too.

It all depends on how much money you can afford to waste. There are plenty of people around weddings who are very keen to take it off you.
The last (2nd) time I got married was in 1999. Registry office. A friend supplied his convertible car fror free. Reception for about 25 people at the local pub/restaurant. Honeymoon was a weekend in Chester. Add in just over £400 for MrsLA's outfit and the whole thing cost just about £1000.
It was a far more enjoyable day than my first wedding which was a full church affair and reception for a 100+ in 1980.
Spend what you can afford but don't imagine an expensive wedding will make you happier or more married.0 -
These days, the CofE church is pretty flexible on whether you can get married in church or not (they want the money!). They like to see that you actually live in the parish but regular attendance is not usually a requisite. Having said that, it does depend on the vicar.
The fees will start at around £300 in total (service, certificate and banns) but some churches can cost more. If you have the organ, choir and bell ringing this will add extra. If you marry in church, you don't have to worry about a licence - the service and certificate encompass that.
As for the rest of the day... the sky's your limit. It can cost you nothing (unlikely) or millions!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I agree. From my experience of friends and family, the bigger and flashier the wedding, the shorter the marriage has lasted.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

This is the FIRST thing I thought about.
Now, back to the question.
It will cost a fraction of the price the divorce will eventually cost.
Why get married just to spoil a good relationship?
Or, why marry a cow, when milk is so cheap?0 -
