Well, I've got some good moneysaving news. I phoned my mobile provider as my contract has just ended & they offered me a 30 day rolling contract for £10.50 per month, with more than enough minutes for my needs. :D:D This is half the advertised price for the package.

This will save me £30 per month and as I'm not tied in, I can upgrade my phone when I decide to (and when I have more money;)). I am well chuffed as I really didn't want the hassle of changing provider (I've been with them 20 years +)

I sympathise with this - my DH is not being too bad atm but I can never be sure he isn't suddenly going to go on a mad spending spree and wreck all our hard work. QUOTE]

Hi I just wanted to get in on the DH thing here. A couple of months ago I convinced mine to cancel his credit cards and put them into a consolidated loan. To ensure he did get rid of them I gave him a card on my M&S visa account (the only cc I have) on the understanding it was FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY.

I came to check my balance on pay day to see that he had spent £31.90 on it for water filters for the pond, in my mind NOT an emergency. I won't go into all the ins and outs of this but his argument was that I hadn't made it clear!!!!

Because I've been dropping the limit on the card to match the repayments this actually took us over limit. I don't think we've been charged for that but it was a close thing and it was on 0% but now we're being charged interest on this, okay it's only 17p so far but :mad:.

I'm really worried that I can't get him out of the mind set of "I want it, therefore I need it, therefore I will buy it without consideration for where the money is coming from because I want it"[/QUOTE]

Yes this is exactly my DH's mindset and if I moan I can almost see the stubborn 'but what do I work for if I can't even afford this' look come onto his face . At least at the moment it's only minor spends, which although these add up, is better than he was before ;).

Please ladies I'd like your advice. We are doing well with our challenge especially paying off our cards...however we are living at the max of our ODs and so paying £130pcm just on interest for those:eek: it is £11k in total between us and our joint account (how could things have got like this?!) so I'm wondering now I know we've been disciplined for 6 months we could try a loan to pay off the ODs and immediately cancel them with the bank and live to "£0" for once, at 6% sains are offering (if we can get than APR) we would pay £210pcm for 5 years. It would mean only £80 more pcm and the OD would effectively be going down (capital) and costing less in interest.

We are saving £200pcm on our mortgage from this month so would still be ok spare-cash wise for our challenge. Once the cards are paid off then we could save up and pay what's left on the loan but that £11k would be almost half what it is now...if we stick with ODs we'll still have £11k to pay off after the cards are gone.

What do you all think? I know consolidation loans are frowned upon on here but would save money if we cancel the ODs IMMEDIATELY and I think we've proved that we have changed now. I really value your advice ladies! Thanks in advance :)

Sorry you didn't get accepted for this loan as it would have been good to save some of the £130 a month in interest payments.

Awwww shucks you guys, you're all so lovely...! I'm sure I would have given up by now if it wasn't for you guys spurring me on!

I've given myself a target of 15 NSD's this month as they really used to help me curb my spending but I've slackened off for the last few months. Unfortunately I'm having a bit of an argument with myself (luckily I'm in an office on my own!) as I have some cakes and mince pies with me but no lunch... I don't want to lose a NSD but I don't want to eat all my snacks for the week in one day and eat crap... Tomorrow I'm having my hair cut as it's longer than Kate Middleton's now and is strangling me! It's the first time in about 6 months and will only cost £20 so it's not bad.

I've also started saving £2 coins again and rounding down my account balances to whole numbers. I've asked my mum if we can meal plan as most of my money each month (except fuel) goes on food! I also need to return my garmin and get my other things ready to sell. I've got absolutely loads that needs to go! To pay off 1% then I need to pay off over £167 so my aim this month is to pay an extra 1% off from selling things, reclaiming money from my medical insurance for optical/dental etc and cutting back on my food spends plus have lots of NSD's. It's only 175 days until Christmas and I need this debt gone!!!!!

You're doing really well Jemma - I know there's no way I'd have eaten the carp even if it meant spending that day! Hope your hair is no longer strangling you :rotfl:.

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Hi all,
So the children are now into the second week of their summer hols and it is definitely turning out pricier than I had budgeted for. You don't see many kids playing outside on the street over here. E eryone seems to be afraid of What Might Happen. As we are a big family with Duracell Bunnies for children that go on and on and on without flagging, I send them outside with their bikes/a basketball/chalks to sketch on the pavement etc in all weathers, with me keeping an eye on them of course. However when the rain is beating down so hard that the little ones are almost swept off their feet ( which they LOVE!) I have to call them indoors and then they start saying 'what can we do now' ? I always get stuck at this point as I am no Mary Poppins with a list of 20 different activities to keep the little darlings amused! So, this is a Long-winded way of saying I have gone a
waaaay over-budget due to bad weather which has led to trips to the cinema, swimming, lunch out etc etc.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm getting a bit nervous about my upcoming debt-free status and losing the security blanket that is this forum. Yes I will be able to pop by and give updates , but there is no doubt it is scarey... OK enough navel-gazing from me. Tomorrow I am sure I will be Up and bouncing around, dancing to ABBA singing 'Money, money, money'. First visit to Ob/Gyn Consultant then pop over to the Cardiologists to get an ECHO done on my old ticker. Have had 2 busy 12hr shifts at work and am now catching up on the daily emails I get sent to me about Financial Freedom...some of them are v samey and boring.A couple of you lot should start blogs-you write v well and it is often full of good ideas. Get a couple of advertisers and ker-ching! Well, enough of my rambling...have a good day!!!! C xx

Hello, I've had all bar one of my normal monthly payments go out for July. I've got one payment to Raymond (the name for my lloyds loan) which comes out on the tenth. Hopefuly that will put me over the 50% mark!

I need to up my game a bit, as I want to get well over my target for this year. Must find some more things to fleabay.

I sold the watch on fleabay, and although it did feel weird, I'm glad I did and I certainly don't miss it.

We are moving house soon, as my parents have kindly let us live in their annex at the farm, this means that we can save and rent out the flat. This also means that we need to downsize, so some massive selling will take place! Can't wait to see those targets falling......Yay!
