Each debt paid is a milestone (not relevant to you!) but perhaps you could set your £1k a month targets and try to beat them by increasing your income?
I like your personal approach SpagBol, thanks for the input.
Unfortunately I'm already working 40 hours in the day job and around another 60 hours self employed with no shortage of work...
There just isn't enough hours in the day!I was a DFW, now I'm a MFW :T0 -

Tell me about it, I do two jobs and find it really hard to increase my income but I try to ebay...and send DH off to make money :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: You sound like you're nearly there so if I were you I'd make some random targets and celebrate them :Tloubie_lou wrote: »I've been waiting six months to try and get my bleeding tax refund. I swear they dilly dally on purpose.......?!
I called the tax office a few weeks ago (give them a call...the deadline for employers sending P60s was May 19th I think- if you have any benefits through work like company car etc you'll have to wait until July ) and had a letter yesterday to say I'll get the cheque by Thursday :T:T £730 due woo hoo! Sadly it'll be mostly eaten up by DS's medical bill but some will go on the total here and DH tells me he is owed £400 by a previous employer so that's good news tooDMP started Oct '17: £79,974 :eek::eek::eek::eek:0 -
Canucksfan – hey hun, I’m here!!! I hope your health issues have cleared up...
*************Thanks Jemma and Kerfuffle***********
There will be lots more of one of these colours in my house around the time this Challenge ends....
Yes, this doddery old woman is expecting again (No 6)...
It has taken me a while to get used to the idea.
Told DH the news today, so he has this dazed look plastered on his face. We won't tell the other children or my manager at work just yet... First doctor visit on Wednesday.
Anyway in the month I have been off-air, throwing up my breakfast with my new BFF, the porcelain goddess, I managed to pay some more towards this debt. In case I haven't said it lately 'THANK GOD' for this forum. If I was still at my original debt level and 'in the family way' too, then I would be really in Queer Street!
Canucksfan #249 - another $1k paid off. $15300/$17418.95 :happylove'You've got to tell your money what to do or it will leave!' Dave Ramsey0 -

Thanks everyone for your lovely posts on becoming an aunty, it’s ace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kerfuffle – You are doing super brilliantly with the 7-day fiscal fasts! Tomorrow should be the last day of the 7 days? How are you doing?
Kerri_dfw – how is your granddad hun? It’s a bummer that Fredricton is so far from Montreal as it would have been lovely for you two to meet up in somewhere so romantic. How are you doing on Folksy? When is the next craft fair?
Minicooper272 – the popcorn at the cinema is almost the same price as the ticket! It’s scandalous!!! I think we all start to feel like we should make the debt busting journey last a little longer cos it gets quite frankly boring, not having any money. But, thinking about how we will feel on our DFD keeps us raring to go!
Choclover – any baby updates yet???
Lemonpopsicle – I really feel for you, I had a terrible car month in April and it’s horrid as you feel like you’ve been treading water for ages with paying off the debt and it’s so disheartening when it goes up despite our best laid plans! *hugs*
Nicolewild – sounds like you’re really positive at the mo and doing things to change your life for the better, it’s superb!
Mrs Addicted to Spending – hey you, how’s the leaky pipes? (no rude replies people!) I have a question, if your fence is between 2 properties then is it a joint responsibility to get it fixed?
Pheonixrising21 – that is fantastic news about the complaint to Santander. Well done on getting that money and that it won’t affect your credit rating now!
Amy83 – hey, nice to hear from you hun and it’s great to see you’ve paid off so much, you’re nearly at 25%!!!
Psychopathbabble – it really really winds me when I think of people who steal. What on earth makes them think they have the right to take things from honest hardworking people?????? I’m sorry it’s happened and I hope it hasn’t put too much of a dampener when thinking of your holiday. Fabulous news about the deposit dispute!!!!!!!!!! Paying off £11k is a HUGE amount!!!
Camuk81 – hurray!!! Cannot wait for the 2 weeks to be up and I can update your totals again with a massive dent!!!
Jakes-mum – I wholeheartedly concur that if you do competitions then get another email account as mine is now clogged with junk and seemingly impossible to stop it!!!! P.s. if I’m to accept your offer of your OH then could you please confirm that returns are free....?! :rotfl: how are you feeling hun? I hope the Haagendaz cheered you up whilst you were feeling rubbish x I’m seriously using some of these “tips” on my niece/nephew when they arrive as it will be hilarious!
BrandNewStart – glad you liked the 200 days post, I thought it was a special milestone as we were on 400+ when the challenge started so we’re definitely less than halfway through now! How are you? How’s the cycling going?
Spagbol – I totally agree, it’s so hard to budget when you use cards, I have the best of intentions but ALWAYS overspend... I might join Choclover on her no-credit challenge next month! How is DS hun? Is he feeling better?
Karrie2129 – Woop woop for the payments, you’ll get there a piece at a time! Can you please confirm that your amount paid off so far is £1224?
Kat10 – hey £360 is a great amount to pay off, well done! You’re sooooo close to 30%!!!
Ruthy1604 – it’s a fantastic feeling when your account is in credit, it’s almost like a mini-DFD moment as it’s such a strange and happy event! Can your OH do my food shopping please if he is doing so well as I’m completely rubbish at it!!!
Linzight – Congrats on being over 50%, it’s such a fab feeling!!!
Starnac – she’s due on Feb 13th which is funny cos my birthday is on the 9th, my older sisters is on the 14th and my Uncles is on the 21st...my family must really get bored at a certain time of year... hey that’s a great idea about paying an amount off and then trying to beat it, and so on for subsequent months. We did this in the running club tonight where we have to run for 2mins and rest for 1min and repeat but try to increase the distance each time, it was fun!
FREEZ – cheers for the heads up hun, I am with Tesco so will definitely be checking this!
Brightpurple – hitting the 4 digits mark is amazing!!!! Well done, you’re worked really hard x
InsertWittyName – I’m struggling with milestones too as I really want to have some to aim for but my payments are pretty much set so I find it hard to reach milestones any other way. I guess I’m just letting my debt take care of itself and celebrate when it reaches certain levels. I do have the advantage (?) of having 3 debts left so I guess these are my milestones in a way when they are each cleared. Blimey! Those are some hours! Please don’t do this for too long as I know full well how it can affect your health. Not even paying off your debt quicker is worth risking your health (ok, caring lecture is over...)
Mumof3plusoh – awwww thanks hun, sorry you had such a carp time weatherwise, it really has been rubbish! Like you say though, it’s a heck of a lot tougher on those whose homes are being destroyed by this rain so we all should be thankful.
Mrso2b – fab news about the bonus and it’ll be wonderful for you to finally get rid of the Egg card!
Tirlittan – you are soooooo close to being 50% paid off, you’re at 49.45%!!!
Shrewbie – hey well done on being over 10% paid off and good luck with nabbing those pesky 3 NSDs this week!
Superheavy – I have to have a wet fish around for such occasions! Doesn’t everyone have one...?! :rotfl: Great news about your sharesave in August, look forward to updating your total then!
Fallenwiccan – sorry but I’ve absolutely no idea on bills! Nice one with the free lunch! How did the presentation go?
His missus – fab news about the tax cheque, I hope they sort out the change of name soon! Welcome back and I’m glad you enjoyed your hols even if it was a little more spendy than you’d hoped.
Loubie_lou – are you ok hun? You seem a bit quiet recently and I’m a little worried about you my dear?
Canucksfan – OMG did you drink the same water as my sister???!!! :rotfl: CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :T:T:T When are you due hun??? I still look at your totals and my jaw drops open as it’s such a terrific achievement and like you say, you are in such a better position now that it’s nearly all gone x
Fritterprincess – never mind Canucksfan’s 6 kiddies and your 2, I can’t afford myself!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl:New Debt Journey: Pay off £19,622.91 by 30th April 2015 :T
Debt at Highest: £43,073 :eek:0 -
Thank you v much for the show of solidarity - I am welling up again at your kind words. Hv no family in this country, so it means a lot to me. I am blubbing at everything these days, whereas I am normally stiff upper lip, workaholic kinda girl.
Fritter, I may have to insist that u fly out here to deliver this one. There is nowt to beat a UK midwife. My only delivery out here was ghastly - v v medicalised - so much so that I am requesting to have my first C-section for this one...
Don't care what it is - already hv 4 pinks and 1 blue. I hv had a few losses in between, so I just can't wait to see the heartbeat at the first scan.
Forgot to say congrats to Jemma on imminent Auntie-dom...what wonderful news! (Can only read a few lines at a time b4 I feel nausea rising up AGAIN) xxx'You've got to tell your money what to do or it will leave!' Dave Ramsey0 -
Hi Folks,
Mf0U1098 - Jemma, thanks for the mention in the epic post. Yep Tuesday is the 7th day of my Fiscal Fast and it looks like it's going to be achieved, I hope I haven't jinxed it now I've said that. Congratulations on the happy news that you're going to be an Aunty :T February 13th sounds such a long way off, but it'll fly by I'm sure.
Ruthy 1604 - You sound to be doing really well. You're getting your debt down, your savings up, your bills paid in advance and now DH is board with the 'cash budget'. Well done that girl :T
InsertWittyName - I didn't have any goals/milestones in particular and with the loan repayment I'm just letting it take it's course so not much effort is required there. However, this month I made an extra effort with the repayment to Bank of Mum and Dad and after scavenging around the house I was able to raise enough money to make the total paid and the percentage nice round figures. So my new goal is to keep the figures rounded by finding either 1% or 2% of the total each month (70.00 gbpounds or 140.00 gbpounds) and doing it that way. I've identified where I can possibly find over 70.00 per four-weekly, but not quite 140.00 so that's my challenge, to achieve a 2% payment.
Well done to jakes_mum, his missus, and psycopathbabble for getting extra money/payments/refunds and anybody else I may have missed. A little windfall is always welcome.:D
Canucksfan - Congratulations on your happy news. I'm sure Hubby will lose the shocked look soon.;)
Well done on all the debt payments everybody, we're all doing amazing. I'm really looking forward to reading down the Debt Free Roll of Honour list in December and seeing all my virtual friends names :T0 -
Jemma - no baby news yet I'm afraid. I've got midwife this afternoon so hopefully she'll book me in to be induced as I'm now a week over due! I'm hoping something happens soon as I'm soooo uncomfortable all the time! Plus that for the last week I've been severely comfort eating as I'm so fed up£2013 in 2013 £866.71/£2013
