You can only open a Halifax junior ISA if your child wasn't eligible for a Child Trust Fund.

None of mine were, they all fell either side of the Governments giveaway.

  • Done mine too, I did transfer the money into my flexaccount last night to remove a step this morning. Feel sadly relieved it's done. DH to do his later.
Yep just done mine too from my Flexaccount - you get a special "You are about to make a transfer that will use your cash ISA allowance" warning in the process.
  • Is it a good idea to open up the Leeds BS 2.55% AER ISA?, which allows transfers in, with 1 pound and then transferring in the whole of the Nationwide Fleclusive ISA balance during October.

Or does anyone think better offers will become available

You can always open the Leeds now and if something better comes along later in the year you can transfer both your Leeds £1 and the Nationwide to the better ISA which takes transfers. You've nothing to lose.

Just got a bit caught out. Needed £600 from my NW mysave account to make the full amount but the electronic transfer can't be done until monday and it may be tuesday before it is completed! As it's payday monday I'll not bother transferring money from there but will keep that in mind next time.

I'd rather earn 4.25% on £5760 until October and then see what the market has to offer and even keeping it in Nationwide at 2% may not be a bad idea.

You aren't allowed to subscribe £1 to Leeds and £5759 to Nationwide in the same tax year, and if transferring you have to transfer the full subscription of the current year.

Someone correct me if this is wrong.

Current year subscriptions have to be transferred in full.

Previous year subscriptions (e.g. your 2012/13 allowance, which is in your Flexclusive ISA) can be transferred in part. It is permitted to transfer £1 of last year's allowance to a Leeds BS account to secure the (albeit variable) rate.

Oh right. So I'd need Leeds to make Nationwide understand that I want to transfer £1 from last year's subscription.

If the rate stays at 2.55% that would get me about £29 more than keeping it in NWd - assuming that the highest ISA accepting transfers in Oct is less than 2%.

Hmm I think I'll just wait till Oct, too many accounts to keep track of, going to gamble on there being something offering at least 2.25% then.

Most ISA transfer forms have a section asking for the amount you want to transfer (if not the full amount), and a box to tick to say whether you are transferring from current/previous/both years' subscriptions.

I too will be taking a gamble and sticking with the Flexclusive ISA only.
