Leeds/Bradford do Ryanair allow WH Smith or Duty free Bag in addition?

because Ryanair has come to agreements with a few select airports (Liverpool/Manchester/East Midlands/Venice Treviso/Brussels Charleroi) where they allow an extra bag of shop purchases. They don't want to publicise it though as the overhead lockers on Ryanair flights are always jammed as it is.
What's the point of it then if it isn't formally allowed in the Ts and Cs in bookings flying from these airports?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
WH Smith at east Midlands had a sign up which read "Ryanair passengers are allowed to take on board one WH Smith carrier bag in addition to their one item of hand-luggage"
WH Smith at liverpool airport had the same sign
Leeds had a sign at the Duty Free shop saying the same thing but obviously a duty free bag rather than WH Smith bag
these were last year
I was wondering if anyone had travelled from Leeds airport recently and had noticed any signage on either shop. Quite simple really and based on fact not supposition0 -
no because it isn't the case at all airports0

I travel out of Leeds Bradford to Murcia every 6 weeks or so.
Ryanair in my experience check every piece of hand luggage for size & enforce the 1 bag only rule. They also check weigh any bag that looks like it might be over weight as well.
That is 1 bag only they never make exeptions.
I have seen some right goings on with people.0 -
Just wear a big jacket and fill your pockets with all your purchases.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

yes we do that - well I say we but my jacket has no pockets so I usually get the OH and the kids to carry the contraband!0

It is a bit of a red herring saying that, on this subject, the Ryanair T&C's are the only ones that count. It is documented that some airports in the UK DO allow passengers a carrier bag of airside purchases as well as their one piece of handbaggage.
Whether Ryanair have officially sanctioned it or not, I do not know, but these airports are allowing it to happen, and on one level or another Ryanair must know its going on. At Bristol they have massive signs as you go through security, which have both the easyJet and Ryanair logos on advising that you can take one carrier bag in addition. Another of the airports (I foget which now) even had it on their website. Its hardly discreet.
You'll never see it in the Ryanair T&Cs, even if Ryanair have agreed to it, because they are not going to break down different conditions for different airports.
To the OP, I'd suggest the easiest thing to do is ring Leeds Bradford Airport and ask them. If you still can't get a definite answer then you have to expect the 1 bag rule will be strictly enforced (as another poster has stated). If subsequently you arrive at the airport and see a sign, treat it as a bonus.0 -
Theoretically, and practically, no, they do not. Many check in staff who then do boarding are paid a percentage of the charges they levy on overweight hand luggage, so I'd work on that basis, to be honest with you.0

Going out from Liverpool last month, I wondered why the boarding gate was opened quite early, then realised every passenger had to have their hand luggage weighted, not checked in the size rack even, just weighed.
It ended up like the changing rooms, clothes moved about from bag to bag, people putting layer after layer of clothes on.
It was quite entertaining, especially when one half of a couple had gone through o.k. but the other further down the queue for some reason had overweight baggage, lots of back and forth going on and quite a few frayed tempers.
I had the tiniest purse-sized bag but a sharp eyed attendant spotted it and I had to put it in my suitcase, then took it back out when I went through!
so, 1 bag only.
Coming back from Malaga, some shops were advertising that Ryanair and EasyJet were allowing a carrier bag of duty free to be carried through as an extra.
Wasn't chancing it so put 2 litre bottles in my hand-luggage.
then, typically, they weren't even bothering to check size, weight or extra bag!!!!!
It's a game of chance everytime we go, but keeps you on your toes and guessing;)0
