I BOUGHT A STOLEN VEHICLE- now its been seized and Ive lost 5K

I purchased a ford fiesta for 5K at the end of Jan.

The Police have advised that a 'marker' was put on the registration at the end of Dec- yet the HPI check I carried out with mycarcheck did not bring anything up and it came back all clear- hence me making the purchase.

I believe mycarcheck are liable but they saying that a 'stolen' marker was not put on the reg and that it was just a query marker- threfore i'm not covered- however surely any marker should ring alarm bells and they should have a duty to advise me as the buyer- hence me paying money for the check?!

I dont know where I stand at all, mycarcheck are being really argumentative and throwing loads of jargon at me and no one seems to want to help me.

I cant afford to loose 5K- or replace my vehicle and its really getting me down. I drive as part of my job and its having a massive impact on my life at the moment.

I cant even take the criminal who did this to court, because he rented a house out to sell me the car, gave a false name, false documentation etc. The Police said it was a brilliant ringer and I wouldnt have known otherwise, but that doesnt make me feel better. I've had money stolen from me and no one seems to want to help me to get it back.

Please help if you've had experience of this.

Thanks

I would seek immediate legal advice. Hopefully you have some form of legal protection cover from your car or home insurance?

    the clue is here
The Police said it was a brilliant ringer

that means you have a car where the details have been changed to make it look legitimate so you have no recourse with the vehicle check

i know i go on about this but as the recession gets deeper more and more crooks will try dirty deeds for cash and selling a stolen cloned car from a rented house is a classic

use your local garage thats traded for years and are there to help when things go wrong ,it might be dearer than a stolen car but heck we all need to eat and in this country profit seems to be a dirty word

sorry op you have learned a very expensive lesson

Have the police told you what "marker" they placed on the vehicle record?

    Aw, no .... that's terrible.

However are you sure it is mycarcheck that are being really argumentative?
How many parties does it take to create an argument?
How many parties are involved in the argumentative discussions?

    From mycarchecks terms & conditions:
    What we do not Guarantee:

We do not Guarantee data out of our control i.e. that is in the possession of the Finance House, ABI and / or NPIA and has not been, or could not have been, transferred to us and:
    1. ...
    2. Any check undertaken of VRM's associated with a cloned or ringed car. We do not guarantee data provided about any vehicle bearing a false identity.

Sounds like you've been stitched up like a kipper

Why do people bother with companies like mycardata etc, why not just use hpi direct...?

Do HPI give a proper guarantee. Sounds like that is the main point of paying

If the police can not identify the vehicle to the correct keeper, they have to give it back to you and it can be re-registered.
    Keep on at them.

Cheap car checks are useless, I keep saying this.

So many cheap text check companies who give you everything including the cars price and probably the time on the moon yet offer little credible data about the actual car your buying.
