BT new line physical installation question
Comments

Their website says
"For only £12.25 a month, you get line rental, inclusive calls thrown in and lots more
inclusive line rental - no need to pay BT
inclusive evening and weekend calls - to UK landlines and 0845/0870 numbers1
inclusive weekend calls - to UK mobiles as well as our top 40 international destinations1
inclusive calls anytime - to other Home Phone customers1
no long contract and no minimum tie-in"
My bold, so where does it say 6 months?0 -
As ever, it's buried deep in the T&C's:
http://www.postoffice.co.uk/broadband-phone/home-phone-broadband/terms-and-conditions
You are not tied into line rental for 6m, but you will be charged if you took a new line as part of your Home Phone contract and then leave within 6m.
Without this provision, everyone would simply use them for a free line install and then be off the next day.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Oh dear, missed that/forgot that, condition 35, last paragraph.-
If you cancel Post Office HomePhone within six
months of any New Line Provision, we may charge
you a cancellation fee to cover our reasonable costs.
That cancellation fee is set out in the Price List.
However, here in http://www.postoffice.co.uk/sites/default/files/Line%20and%20feature%20rentals%20v11.pdf
it says
New Line Provision Cancellation Charge - HomePhone
If you cancel Post Office HomePhone within six months of any New Line Provision, we may charge you a cancellation fee of £15 to cover our reasonable costs.
Not an arm and a leg compared to Installations costs of £112.34 normally..
I'll edit my post.0 -
Depends on the definition of reasonable. £15 is very reasonable, and hardly a deterrent to 'line tarting'!No free lunch, and no free laptop

I assume they think their charges are reasonable enough that not many will line tart, and I would guess there wouldn't be many. There may be more on a big LLU'd exchange with Cable provision as well, but hey it's a tough competitive world, they need to do what they can to get and keep customers.0

Only a pedant would worry about this issue.
They "may" charge you £15 if you leave within 6 months of having any line installation! (Free or paid for)0 -
Then call me a pedant, but had that buried term been more than £15, then it potentially puts a different slant on the viability of the offer. No free lunch, and no free laptop

The term covers all cancellations within 6 months, not the offer.
And it's no more buried than any other clause on cancellation is it?
Faced with paying over £100 to get a line installed elsewhere (which would usually mean a minimum 12 month line rental contract), getting free installation and no minimum contract for a £15 leaving charge looks a true "no brainer".
And scaremongering or what:macman wrote:

If you want a "free" install and be off next day, £15 won't be a consideration in the scheme of things, bearing in mind the moneysaving by getting the line pit in for £0!!0 -
I agree, the small £15 fee is fairly absurd-nevertheless it is a term about which the PO are not upfront-and presumably if they find that people are exploiting it to get a free install, then the fee will be increased. No free lunch, and no free laptop
