Ow. I know how you feel. I had the same thing happen to me once this guy smashed into the side of my car bashed it in, flat tyre and damaged wheel hub. Never even got his number all I noticed in the rear mirror was this car's rear lights disappearing into the distance at very high speed.Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0

Despite this, it's worth looking for the cameras covering the entrance(s) and exit(s) and asking.
That's what I said as they do have camras when you enter or leave. The security guard in store said they didn't work. So that's helpful!0 -
Did the police ask the security guards or did you? I wonder if the request would be better coming from the police. Perhaps you could speak to the police again and get them to just double check the camera situation because it may have been misunderstood in the emotion of the moment.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Hi Krissy, sorry to hear of your misfortune. Have you had any quotes for the damage to your car yet? I take it you're saying it would cost you up to £1k up front because that is what your excess is on your insurance policy?
I kind of feel that, if the damage is going to cost £1k or more, then that was quite a shunt you got there and with you sitting in the car you must have been quite severely jolted (catching my drift yet?). If it reaelly was as bad as you say then you probably should get yourself checked out by a doctor, it's possible that you could have sustained whiplash or some back/neck injury.
Are you saying the Police are not going to do anything about this due to lack of CCTV footage? Surely if there is a personal injury attached to this hit an run then they should treat it like any other hit and run out on the street? Or do criminals get some kind of diplomatic immunity on private property? Surely there were other shoppers at the store. Its a natural reflex for people to look to the source of an unexpected noise, maybe you could campaign next week, same time same place asking for witnesses to come forward?
Is this another case of Criminals, 1 - Police, 0 - Public, Collateral Damage!
Good luck anyway, I hope you can find the scumbag who did this.

That's sound advice. Suggesting the op should have whiplash.
How does that help, it doesn't change the fact there is no evidence for the police to work with and the report will just be filed.0 -
Security usually deny requests to help and make excuses not to help customers, Tesco have great security cameras but they are there to protect Tesco stock, and it is security's job to do that (protect stock), not to protect you. They are not supposed to allow themselves to get distracted from their primary task by incidents that happen in the carpark that do not involve Tesco.
If the CCTV was run by customer services you'd probably have much better luck, but it isn't.
If you report it to the police and THEY ask for the tapes, then there's a much better chance of them being examined and handed over, security has a "working relationship" with the police and usually won't lie to them.0 -
I've never really understand why most students actually need cars tbh, let alone how they pay for them.
Totally helpful post that isn't it. 100% constructive.
Most students these days seem to have rich parents - bank of mum and dad seems to sort it all out for them. In poor areas very few students drive and having lived in both I noticed a huge difference in the money flow, status and stupidity too. Poor people learn to solve problems in order to survive.. thats all I'm saying.
@OP: You're best of looking for any other cameras that may be in the area and pointing the police to them - they're not known for being the smartest tools in the box (unless there is a murder then they'll find every camera all over town). As for repairs while the fuzz are slowly eating doughnuts, your best bet will be to find a breaker - eg on ebay - and get a bumper like that. Get it fitted (even if its the wrong colour) and keep your costs down. When you have the money you can either find another bumper thats the same colour (and sell the wrong coloured one) OR just get yours resprayed to match.0 -
I've had someone cause £1600 worth of damage to my car - they jumped on the bonnet and roof one night, badly denting both. I had to get a new roof fitted. It was very upsetting.
The claim was recorded as an act of vandalism which was declared for the following 5 years each time I renewed my insurance policy.
My advice to the OP would be to establish whether it would be cheaper to fund the repair yourself or claim. I think I may have needed to get a crime reference number for the insurance company, can't remember now as it was in 2006.
I doubt that there is any point in trying to track the car down, after all, how could you then prove it was them?0
