OMG!!! Where did you all sleep???Hardup_Hester wrote: »I used to have a sign in my kitchen that said 'Many people have eaten in this kitchen & gone on to lead perfectly healthy lives'
When I had 4 kids under 10 my house was always a mess.
When I was living with my hubby, his son, my DD, SIL & DGS & my son & his GF, in a 3 bed house, my house was always a mess.
Now there is just me & hubby, my house is aways a mess.
Always remember that a tidy house is a sign of a boring life.

What's your neighbours house like?
She may be worrying that your house is tidier than hers.
My MIL always used to look round my house as if she were finding fault. I never actually caught her running her fingers along the mantlepiece looking for dust but felt that she was doing it when I was out of the room. She spends ages doing housework and she has a cleaner so I've decided that although my house may not be as clean I'm better organised.0 -
I would love to see her house to be honest. Maybe you have been to hard on yourself. Just do it in bite size chunks. That is how I do it. I am not the tidiest of people. I am a horder and I love my hord. People think it looks homely and they love it. I have even helped some people. Just think this in your head NOONE IS PERFECT! and you will be fine with it!!!!! I do promise.
Try having 3 kids, a smallholding, husband who dumps crap everywere!! and me little me horder the perfect family lolHas anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A

I have a friend who is even worse than me, (that's why she's my friend) and we have a pact that if one of us dies suddenly the other one will move in and go through the house like a tornado before the undertaker arrives.
I could go on but it's getting late and I have a mountain of STUFF to climb over before I can get into bed.

This really made me laugh out loud as I have a similar arrangement with my friend!
My favourite hangy-up-plaque-thingy is in my Aunty's house and says..... My house was clean and tidy yesterday. Pity you missed it!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

Micschick - and others who have posted in support - this reads like a second `Messy` thread. Do come and join us there, you`d feel right at home! It`s reading posts like this thread and the `Messies` thread that make us realise we are `normal`. Sometimes a `Messy` gets a burst of inspiration and reports some progress, being a `FlyMessy` for a bit. Sometimes we slip back and have a moan about our mess, but folks are always supportive either way!0

If nothing else your children will probably be far healthier and less prone to illness than the children of clean freaks.
There is always something more interesting to do than housework.

I guess it depends on how much of a mess it is. If it's cluttered and untidy, that's excusable. If it's dirty and unclean, that isn't. I have friends who's houses I don't want to sit down in because of all the crumbs/pet hair/dirt and I have friends who's houses are cluttered up to the rooftops and look untidy but are still very clean...
If someone choses to live in clutter, I have no problem with that but I DO judge rather harshly those who's laziness means their kids are living in a dirty home because that just looks like you don't care. But I don't have hugely high standards...
If you're all wearing clean(ish) clothes and you have at least one clean plate, you're doing pretty well
I found Cynthia Ewer's book Cut The Clutter quite helpful, though some find her a bit OTT!

When I visit anyone at home, all I care about is a warm welcome and hopefuly a cup of coffee and a buscuit and a nice chat.
Would much rather visit a "home" than a show house any day.
That said, when anyone calls unexpectedly, yes, I panic about what it looks like. How stupid is that after what I had just typed
Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
you could always channel how your feeling about this to galvanise yourself into action and start a spring clean. one room per day and involve the family with this tooTeamwork means.......never having to take all the blame yourself
