Yes it's got HD which you may not need but it will give you an extra channel (for now) BBC HD which you can view in SD and you can add a USB HDD but its not necessary and at less than £30 the receiver (only) is excellent value, just add a Scart lead.

Depends what you want to spend-OP, what is your budget? A digibox can be anything from a tenner at Tesco up to £100 or more.

I have just checked my TV and there is only one scart socket in it will that be ok for the Freeview box ?

Why would you think it wouldn't?

BTW, Most programmes on freeview are transmitted in 16 x 9 format these days so prepare for a lot of letter boxed programmes if your TV has an older 4 x3 screen.

If you are using it with your old CRT TV then you might just as well go and buy a cheapie from Tesco.

If you are thinking of replacing your old tv in the next few months and all you want to do is watch tv through freeview, you may as well save your money on the digital converter box and just buy a new tv, because they all have built in freeview nowadays. It isn't any more difficult to get them working than to tune in an analogue tv.

But do you want a box that will record tv as well? Then you'll need to look for a freeview plus box which costs a little bit more.
