Spill the beans... on cutting the cost of hairdressers

Got the worst haircut of my life through a group buying deal at a hairdresser called Oceanic in East Kilbride. Bought it in September and it was valid to March. Tried to get an appointment for Jan but the first they would give me was the end of March. Arrived on time and was kept waiting 45 mins and had my hair cut in 10 mins with a razor cut (thought that went out with the feather cut in the 70's). Salon was far from clean and had the brushes with an inch of hair on them. DD spent more time cutting the missed long bits than the hairdresser had taken to do the full cut. DD also had a bad experience with one of these deals. Had hair dyed and it was very uneven. Our family are going to give them a miss from now on. Looking for a reliable local hairdresser that doesn't charge a fortune.
