There is a 'walk in' hairdressers in Norwich, which costs £10 for cut & blow dry. I've been going there for years. You get whichever stylist is free, and sometimes its not exactly what I expected, but it has never been so awful as to stop me going there.0

I cut my own. I tend to do it in the shower so the water makes my hair lie straight and flat, then I can just trim off the bottom. If I want to refresh my layers I just hang my head upside down, gather all my hair together and chop off the end. When I stand the right way up again it's in nice layers. (If you try this at home, just be careful not to pull it all forward while you're upside down or you'll get it shorter at the front than at the back, which may not be the look you're going for.)
I have also cut friend's hair, especially while I was at uni. And I've done my Dad and ex Hubby's with clippers. They take a little practice but aren't hard to handle.0 -
Pretty much groupon and kgb deals for cut colour restyle etc.. have not paid full prices for 18 months now and get to check out other salons that I wouldn't normally go to.
Only had one bad experience with over an hour wait (without beening informed of delay arggah) and the colour didn't turn out the best so would never go there again. But other than that it's been fab and these days it doesn't pay to be a loyal to a salon that a wash/cut and blowdry cost £35 when deals around are for that (or less in most occassions WITH COLOUR).0 -
I was made redundant 16 years ago. Bought one of those trimmer combs with the razor blade in it for a pound and haven't been near a barber shop since0

I'm particular about my haircut and my hair is short so needs a good cut. I pay a lot for it - £50 - but it only needs cutting every ten weeks or so and the style looks good for that length of time. My mother-in-law thinks that's very expensive - she only pays £20 a time, but goes every four weeks. It works out the same, but she won't believe it.
Value for money may be more important than just how much you spend.0 -
My mother wanted to be a hairdresser but her mother made her train to be a secretary in the City instead. She has the scissors and cuts my hair and that of my brother and has been known to rescue bad haircuts on his three daughters too.0

I live in the stix (Pembrokeshire) so the Groupon/KGB deals are far, far away, though I have used one in Swansea (60miles away) and have considered ones in Cardiff (95miles away). With the train tickets on top it takes it up (and possibly over) the normal cost of a hair cut, but I get a nice day out with it too.
If anyone does know a decent & cheap hairdresser in Pembrokeshire please let me know!0 -
Go to the hairdressing school which has a salon in the town centre. Like many other money-saving ideas it helps to be time rich as a cut and blow takes 90 minutes on average.0

I had one cut at the local college - the £5 price lured me in.
The 3 hour sitting for a cut and blowdry means I'll never return.
Groupon for me - and if Groupon don't do a decent deal around the time I'm looking, I go to a local one which is tucked in the back streets. Pretty decent cut for about £20.
Boys in this house all get clippered.
Daughter - still haven't found a cheap good person to trim her hair for under £10. Argh!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?
