I think people should just stop eating and drinking for a while, and get off their butts and walk. It would certainly save money and contribute to attenuating the obesity crisis the UK is heading for.
Even less time to shop for food then.0 -

Take the TRAIN and a bicycle. You could even use a bus at the other end if you're too lazy to cycle. Believe it or not, people actually do this all over the country and even in London of all places! Terrible isn't it
Some people don't have this choice. I live in a rural area with minimal public transport and drive 60 miles a day. No train, no bus and cycling will get you killed (not to mention how long it would take!). In the last fuel strike my work had to shut because so few staff could make it in.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

We are not all fit.
We don't all live in urban areas or have a station (even a blinking bus stop) nearby. As for London, it's one of those places where it's probably easier (as well as more sensible) to use public transport. So a pretty pointless example
We don't all have static office jobs - my last job involved visiting families across a large rural region; traders need to do house to house calls, etc etc.
Some of us have family or carer responsibilities.
I am sick of some of the holier than thou attitudes on here. Some people genuinely do need do need their wheels. It's not all about being lazy and driving 100 yards to the nearest store for bread and milk or being overly consumerist. Sigh..0 -
Fuels at it's highest ever price, and we are scrambling to buy it! The treasury must be loving it.
What a bunch of t*ts we are.0 -

But except where garages have hiked their prices, the government will not actually be making any money out of this. Think about it...
Of course the Govt. make more money. If a garage hikes its prices the amount of VAT also rises and the Govt. makes more money.
