I've heard a good few negative comments about it. Property is cheap there for a reason. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
wouldnt say it was cheap £300k for 4 bedroom house.
do you come from lordswood or chatham ???0 -
I live in Gillingham, Which isnt to far away and I would Say Lordswood is ok .. As for the Chavs remark .. Theres chav's everywhere, wernt they called teenagers in the 'olden' days!
Anyhow My opinion is ... your home is where the heart is, and you can be happy where ever you want its totally up to you ... I hope you'll be very happy in Lordswood hun0 -
Born and bred in the Medway towns and lived in Gillingham, Chatham and Walderslade.
As much as I enjoyed it back then (14 years ago) it is pretty much a sorry place now in my opinion of course. Saying that "parts" of Lordswood and Walderslade are still quite nice but generally look worse each time I drive through.
As for chav, well the word chavi originates from Chatham and means small child. The shortened version (chav) is obviously widespread and used across most of the UK. Not sure who first used it though?0 -
I work in Lordswood and find it quite acceptable there. I have heard there are "worse" areas within the heart of Chatham but my experience of most local people I deal with is very positive. The area is pleasant enough. Why not take a day out that way to have a look. There are some historic places round Rochester and Chatham Dockyard etc you could go and visit to to make a full day of it.0

WHAT ABOUT LORDSWOOD - HAVE YOU ANY EXPERIENCE OF THIS AREA ??0 -
What road are you looking at?"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I live in Chatham, grew up in Gillingham, and husband grew up in Lordswood. Mother In Law still lives there, though father in law has recently escaped. (from Lordswood, not from mother in law!). I live in the 'worst area' of Chatham - Luton - and we would not move to Lordswood. Most of the town centre shops are either closing or already closed, every single one has metal shutters on at night, the library has had to close...every now and then on the way home from m-i-ls house we stop off to grab a bottle of wine and have to walk past huge gangs of teenagers who hang about outside the shop, I find it quite threatening.
The problem with Lordswood is that everyone who bought there when it was new (and I must admit that it's an attractive place - nice houses and plenty of greenery around) has now had their families and now those young families are teenagers with nothing to do - there's very little to do in Lordswood if you're too young to drive. Hubby was happy to stay in and read a book but not many kids are like that (don't I sound old! I'm only 29!). Although parts of Chatham are a dive, there's always more Chatham to go to, if you know what I mean. With Lordswood they have been known to have to even stop bus services for a while thanks to rocks being thrown at the buses...
I don't want to scare you off, it's just that if you're buying a fairly big house you've either got family or are planning to stay there a while & it can be an awkward place. Which street are you looking at? As if it's not too close to town it might not matter too much to you...0 -
There is a pretty good school in Lordswood though...it's not all bad, a good junior school at least. My m-i-l works there. :-)0
