I can't say we have that problem in body in white. Not to make it sound like we stand around doing nothing. We do work hard, but toilet breaks and stuff are not really a big deal. If we do need to go, just wait til there is a inevitable breakdown, or work a lil harder so there is a backlog of cars for the next station, and make a bee line for it. But usualy you just ask! managers in BIW are sound as.
Hi Punk - you did your training at Solihull didn't you? Whats the first few days like? Any medicals etc? or straight into the training?
thanks0 -
To the person that asked about pay. The £14.40 or whatever it is (can't remember my self) is for the 3 shift work pattern. If you do days & nights which is 2 shift, you get a flat rate for days and a lot more for the nights.
I've worked it out myself and pritty much the pay is very similar, We are talking about £10-£15 a week difference.
I was at Land Rover but I am currently at Jaguar, I don't want to go back. The work is easier and more relaxed but it's still a long hard graft. I'm very much enjoying my time there at the moment and met some great people.
It might be a good idea for people to start stretching or going for long walks, It'll be one less hurdle to overcome once the work kicks in.0 -

Can anyone make sense of the pay structure? A friend of mine has been taken on at Castle Brom and is on £8ph. The Manpower site states £11.42. I didn't realise they could potentially offer you a lot less?0

Everyone from manpower gets same pay.0 -
basic is £11.42 an hour at jag for manpower employees. They will give you an A4 piece of paper with a break-down of the various rates of pay i.e shift pay, bank holiday pay (double time), saturday pay etc..there are loads of different ones. but the minimum basic is 11.42.
After sucessful 12 weeks i.e 3 months you get an attendance allowance i.e be on time and attend every day which is approx £27 a week. There is a shift allowance but i doubt that will kick in until the shifts start at Jag . I cant comment on solihull as i dont work there. But seeing as its the same company and Manpower operate both Temp workforces it should be same.
The lad who asked about training, on your 1st day which is your induction you will be given a couple of presentations about the company, then manpower do a bit of form filling i.e payroll , the health forms that you get at interview stage (these should be completed and will be collected of you) . you will be given your handbooks, and all other paperwork relating to your job.
Then you will be broken into groups. some will go off to get their uniforms , others will go and do their hearing tests and height/weight check, breathing check (just blow in a tube and they know the capacity of your lungs! dont ask why.) and if you answered Yes in any part of your health questionnaires they will discuss it with you. some will get a tour...you will all do each of the things eventually in turn but they break it down to make it more manageable. there were over 100 starters on my day.
2nd day is when you start your Pera training ..its just classroom based stuff very basic about Business improvement techniques. all you do is listen. take notes on the bits they tell you to (pen and paper provided) and then after each section you do a little multiple choice test. Also you do a team acitivity where you run a dummy bike factory thats good fun. The test is very easy 2 answers are completely daft and other 2 are equally correct and you have to choose the right one based on what youve just been taught. 60% is all thats needed to pass. There is also a final test again multiple choice ..slightly harder but revise your notes and you will be fine. they say its 2 weeks but actually you only do 5 days of classroom stuff. 1 day induction, 1 day of another presentation and team building activities. 1 day of maths/english tests e.g doing graphs, writing emails/ formal letters etc very easy, then towards end of the 2 weeks 1 day of sitting waiting around but all you do is 2 group discussions 1 formal on a topic your unfamiliar about..and 1 informal about a familiar topic. last day you wait around, get a talk from union/join if u want, meet your team leaders, get shown to your lines , told where to go etc and then ready for shift for following monday.
All the days starting from induction are paid so enjoy it as its the easiest thing you will do for the money...ever!. But dont get comfortable too much because when you start on the track then you have to up your game0
