  • Union complete jokers, just warning any new starters at Halewood as I cant comment on other sites, but it is unlikely you will EVER get a contract with JLR after 1st Jan. TBH I don't reckon any of the starters taken on from june 2014 are likely to get a contract, I do hope i am wrong. Manpower are prob gonna clean house after Jan and bring us all back on the 5 year agency agreement, these words spoken by a JLR Union steward! . If your Manpower cancel your union fee, you get no say in matters that affect you and the stewards don't care about you, as proven by the current pay deal!

It wouldn't make sense to get rid of the people currently on Manpower and clean house though. Part of the agency agreement is that once the Jag head count drops below 90% they have to offer Jag contracts to agency staff.
  • Asked a new lad last night, at Castle Brom 70% is £10.79, at the moment before pay deal (4.5%) plus any shift premium which ranges AFAIK from 16% to 33%. After 12 weeks you will get £30 weekly attendance allowance 37hr week.

Basic hourly rate at Solihull should be the same but not sure on the other stuff.

    So, 70% = £10.97
    After 1 year 80% = £12.33
After 2 years 90% = £13.87 (not sure of the further rates)
    + any pay rises.

This is good to know. Thank you.

Does anybody know what the pay is at the new engine plant?

    Cheers.
  • I was really looking forward to a change of career, but this uncertainty is cause for concern. I could be leaving a job and moving to one which is about £4,000 less salary per year. Plenty to think about.

Well, I have my interview soon for a position at Solihull/Castle Browwich. And as they say, forewarned is forearmed. Just looking for a little bit of info as people close to the business don't seem to want to give too much away.

I am going through Manpower and just wondered, this 70% pay in the first year, do we know what this makes the hourly pay rate? I have heard lost of numbers thrown around, someone did mention £10.75 per hour, others have said £10.40?

Secondly, the job is Full-Time. Does anyone know exactly how many hours per week this is? I have heard it's 37, 37.5 and 38.

Finally, is there always overtime on offer, and if so do the Manpower staff get any extra or is it just paid at the normal rate?

    Thank you.

My interview went really well, just have to wait now.

One thing bothering me slightly. Is it correct that you get 28 days paid holiday per year, of which 8 days are bank holidays, leaving you with 20 days. And these 20 days can only be used during shutdown? What if you need a day off? My son is disabled and every 3 months he has an appointment at the hospital which I have to attend. I could request unpaid Parental Leave, but I think that if I did this as an agency worker, then they would just get rid of me.

  • You don't necessarily get all bank holidays, it changes year to year and plant to plant.

At CB we have a floating week, but this is supposed to be taken as a whole week and all other holiday take at shutdown.

For people on JLR contracts they do offer "Family Friendly" days but don't know how many are allowed or if these are allowed for the Manpower workers.

I would suggest speaking to Manpower explaining your needs and getting their views.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I'll talk to them.
  • Just remembered that as Manpower we could actually take our floating week as individual days depending on local needs.

Thanks. Just discovered that I am NOT entitled to take Parental Leave as you have to have been employed for at least 12 months. So a few individual holiday days would be great for me.
