The Pera Training is actually quite good. I have been on lots of these types of courses and this was by far the best.

This was a Castle Brom so don't know if/how different it will be at Solihull.

The first week can drag quite a bit as you can be waiting around quite a lot, waiting for things to be set up or for other people to finish their turns. It mainly consists of literacy and maths tasks, all computer based and also the Manpower induction and occupational health screening (all basic stuff don't worry). There is also a 'culture day' where you 'explore the culture and ethos' of the company (basically working as a team).

The second week is the course proper.

It is all about 'lean manufacturing', process improvement etc and can be quite fun. You will be split into teams and have to compete to build a product and make as much profit as possible.

You will start off losing money but by the end of the week, by implementing what you are learning, you should be able to turn a profit.

My advice would be to get involved, if you don't understand something ask, there are no stupid questions. The instructors are there to help you and it is in their interest to get as many passes as possible. (Although saying that they won't spoon feed you all the answers, you will have to work at it).

After the training you will be allocated a work area and start the real work.

    Good luck.

Thanks for that, I'm looking forward to it!

Anyone working at CB know if 2 week shift rotation (Mornings/Afternoons) takes place on the Wednesday this week or the start of next week?

    Thanks!
  • The shift rotation carries on as normal, so if you have just finished 2 weeks of mornings, you go back on Wednesday as afternoons. What section you working in Mark?

Cheers for the reply Dave, I'm trying to work out if I have finished the rotation or not as only started last Monday and its all been a bit messy. Monday Tuesday I was on mornings then I dropped onto afternoons for the rest of the week.

    Currently working in D block

    Cheers

Unless you were told any different then stick to that shift pattern, you go back on mornings by the way.

I know the feeling! You at Solihull tomorrow I presume? Nervous and excited at the same time. I'm gonna take a walk down there in a bit to see how long it's gonna take me in the morning. Not sure about tea and coffee though, best take your own I think!

They have drinks machines all over the place, they have a canteen too, which is pritty nice & cheap, but gets busy obviously. Another thing is if there's only 1 or 2 people in front of you don't expect to be served straight away, most of the time, 1 person is sent off to get breakfast/lunch for a whole section, so they may be getting 10-15 meals. I made this error and went without food on my first day.
