Renewable heat incentive

Delayed yet again, originally it was to be launched in 2010 and now 'likely date' is Summer 2013. Forgive the pun but I think the Government are scared of getting their fingers burnt like with FIT.

Just as well my Ecodan ASHP is saving me lots anyway.

The £850 RHI Premium Payment was a nice wee bonus but the proposed ongoing RHI payments never made any sense to me. Never understood why I should be paid when the EcoDan already saves £000's, probably £0000's, a year on heating and DHW.

After the FITs fiasco I can't see RHI ever happening, I think it will die off quietly... IMHO FITs for PV was a money making scheme for a luck few lucky gits ;)....

RHI is already happening but just for non-domestic, our GSHP system has been already been accredited by OFGEM, first payment due in May, currently 4.5p rising to 4.7p from April per kWh, measured by class 2 heat meters.

Cheers, should have made clear I'm chatting about domestic... :)

With this talk of heat meters being required it might be more hastle than it's worth but who knows...

They have had years already to nail down this scheme only to be delayed again...

Inspires no confidence at all :(

Besides if I received RHI and FITs i'd be on Cardew's hit list ;)

    This is the thing...

EST/DECC have informed me they want to monitor my ASHP.

At first I thought ok, fair enough...

Then I got told it would be a while as they have nobody qualified to install the monitoring equipment, so until they train someone...

Now I'm thinking, get stuffed, there's no chance I'm letting anyone near it with a days training course under their belt. Oh and to allow 6 hours for the install... And to cap it all the monitoring system will not be removed after the trial... Eye that will be right...

I bought it, went throught the hastle of the learning curve and install etc Ok I got the £850 fart in the wind, but still...

System is so cheap to run they can keep the RHI...

I have read your thread with much interest and wouldn't mind some advice on the following, please.
We are updating and extending a detached 60's bungalow. It is currently heated by a very old but reliable (but not efficient) Redfyre oil boiler and we would like to replace and relocate the heating system.
We have been quoted £4500 for a biomass pellet boiler (extraflame melinda) to be fitted and set up, and with the prospect of a £950 RHP that seemed do-able. About £220 per tonne pellets with delivery. But without the RHI kicking in I'm having second thoughts. How does an ASHP like the Mitsibushi Ecodan compare for heating, hot water and running costs? etc etc. any advice thoughts welcome.

Pellet heating should cost about 4-5p per kilowatt hour. If the RHI rates for domestic are to be the same as for non-domestic they will pay almost 8p per kWh for the first 1314 x the size of your boiler in kW, and 2p per kWh for additional energy produced.
