Inequalities in the workplace!

  • I can see why it would be very irritating to have to wear a full tie and suite combo when your coworkers are getting away with more comfortable clothing. Has your OH tried asking about summer clothing policies at his workplace?
On the other hand, if you have to dress smart and you're a man all you have to do is wear a suit and a tie and use an iron. If you're a woman you are also expected to wear makeup - but not too much! - and if you have a large chest you're expected to somehow make it disappear -without wearing a baggy shirt because those of course don't look smart enough. Heels are usually expected, and an appropriate amount of jewellery as well. If you dress too much like a traditional business person (suit and tie and shirt) you get called out for dressing too much like a man (obviously a sign of unprofessional lesbianism or something, idk), if you dress too much the other way you get... other comments. It can be quite difficult to find appropriate workwear if you're a woman, particularly if you're not too keen on skirt suits.

If they are allowed to why shouldnt they. If they werent they would be told to come in something more appropriate the next da.

Your husbabd dresses as he does presumably because he wants to.

Its not as if they are front of house meeting and greeting.

Your OH would look silly in one of those floor length floaty strappy dresses anyway.:D

I really cant see that it matters.

Maybe read the OP's post again as it seems your response is totally irrelevant?

The question is why are they allowed to, not why do they wear what they wear. Also OP clearly said the other half has to wear a tie as all men have to. A sleeveless t-shirt with a tie would not look too good.

What on earth? 26 degrees is pretty hot. Most offices would be heated to around 21/22 degrees in winter. Why wouldn't they be cooled to the same in summer?

And you'd beer swearing your winter clothes. Why would you want to have the same temperature when you are in your summer clothes?

My pet hate is people who like Aircon, or more specifically, use it as refrigeration. Aircon should be set to around 26 degrees and used to keep the heat off, not to chill a room to 18 degrees.

26 degree. most people do not even have there heating set to 26 degrees.

Thats the point. You can wear put on more clothes.
I can not have any less on.
  • I agree that it is unfair but the problem is that women can still look smart in a sleeveless top with a jacket/cardigan over the top but you can't really say the same amount a man in a sleeveless vest!.

There's certainly something in there. A woman can look elegant/formally dressed, wearing hardly more than a little black dress (provided that her overall styling - figure, hair, make-up are appropriate.) For a man it would be difficult if not impossible, to wear equally little and to look equally elegant/formal.

Hence, the problem lies with our western clothing conventions.

However, men are not always at a disadvantage: Men's shoes are far more comfortable and sturdier than women's, their clothes have plenty of spacious pockets, they never have to wear skirts in bad weather conditions etc.
