It's normal for most companies to automaticly renew an anual policy when it ends, and as you mentioned they always ramp up the price. There is no reason other than to increase profitability and unfortunatly, the companies who don't employ this tactic no longer exist. 9 out of 10 customers just accept their renewal and unwittingly pay whatever is due.

The best option is to just cancel the policy and take out a new one. Sometimes even taking out the SAME car breakdown cover policy with the SAME provider results in a saving.

Every year when my breakdown cover is due for renewal I will cancel it and take out a new policy through one of the comparison sites like http://www.whybreakdown.co.uk
  • Does anyone know of a good value, reliable breakdown cover for a classic bike that can beat the £39.99 that I am quoted from Bennetts ?

I have just this minute renewed my Autoaid cover, £41, BUT, I notice on here, that, all the happy customers , never mentioned, IF, they were fixed at the roadside, only, those taken either home or a garage.??( unless I missed them )
Anyone had happy roadside service from them.??

Free with any Nash policy and they might even price match Bennetts

We had a complete nightmare with SwiftCover Breakdown yesterday as we were about to go on a weeks holiday to France ! So just sharing the saga as I've never come across as disorganised service in my life !

Checked in at 0830 at the channel tunnel & then noticed noise from the engine so called out the breakdown service, first time we have used them in 3 years.

First call out took about 90 mins, he had a quick look thought it was the water pump & couldn't fix it so ordered a recovery truck to take us home. 2 hrs later I phone to see what is happening to be told first company wouldn't take us as we were around 120 miles away & they needed to stay local as only had 2 drivers. So they tell us someone will pick us up, take us to Maidstone Services ( some 20 miles away) then someone else would collect us & take us home. So we get to that services around 3pm - 6hrs after first call.

Then I call them to say we are on our way so an they arrange for the recovery driver to be on the way to transfer us & take us home. To then be told actually they can't take us home either but will take us to their depot & they will get us a taxi from there. The car will follow during the week when a driver will be available.

Next driver turns up around 5pm & asks where we are going ! I then phone again to say we are on next leg of the journey & could they arrange the taxi as promised or a hire car, I didn't care which. It had been a long day & I was getting a little grumpy !!! One thing I haven't mentioned was we had our dog with us & I made that clear when we first called. Anyway en route I call again to give them ETA to be told they are struggling to get a taxi because of the distance & we had a dog !!! She suggested I may like to arrange something locally, pay for it myself & they could then reimburse - I politely told her that wasn't acceptable.

We arrive at the yard (it literally was a yard & graveyard for badly damaged cars some of them clearly involving serious injuries or worse !) anyway just painting the picture its not somewhere you'd like to while away another 2 hrs !!!! This yard was also on Isle of Sheppey so around another 20 miles in the wrong direction !

The taxi that picked us up had come from Richmond so some 60 miles away and was initially given the wrong address, he eventually arrived at around 8pm & we got home at 1020. So all in all a complete nightmare !

I thought when you had recovery to home it meant in one journey & had never realised that isn't akways true. But irrespective it was the lack of organisation & communication that was probably the worst experience ever - if they had told me honestly at the beginning of the day the options I'd have been able to make some suggestions how it could be easier & cheaper for everyne.

Anyway if anyone wants material for a comedy I've a few ideas !!!

I have been with Autoaid for 7 years. I have never claimed. Today I tried to claim because for the first time in my life I locked the keys inside the car.

They said I was not covered for this. Its in the small print. They have had so much of my money yet they will not pay out. The car is as disabled when the keys are locked inside as it is if it breaks down. They just kept quoting the small print at me. Never again will I insure with them!

Just my experience - avoid KwickFit - dodgy...

Quote was 28 gbp as per site. Their card platform is poor. Enter payment details and in the top left in small it said "£58 will be processed" !!!!!! did that come from! But button had been pressed and yep email confirms that price NOT quoted one.

Call them and told them to poke it. Was told I had to email breakdown@kwik-fitinsurance.com to do that!

    So be careful
