I would like to thanks everyone as I have found many useful tips regarding car break down.
Glad to visit this forum.0 -
The 1st year I bought breakdown cover from TGIC I was impressed by the cover for the price. All smiles then. At renewal the price increased massively. After some experimentation I let it expire and took out a new policy on their own website for a third of the renewal price. Not too impressed but happy with the outcome. Year 3 and the car is now 6yrs old. No breakdowns to date. The renewal price is now 3 times what I paid last year and, going by their website, the car being 6 instead of 5 appears to double the price. Their pricing model appears to clobber return customers and misses completely that a personal policy, one that'll cover me not the car, doesn't beat me up because my car is getting older. This make them uncompetitive for cars only 6 yrs old. Seems daft to me, then they haven't been around too long. They've lost me this year.0

I was going to take out Breakdown insurance with this company until I found this site reviewcentre.com.
Unfortunately MSE won't let me post the link, but check it out.
87 reviews for The Green Insurance Company, some of them for the breakdown side, all of them lousy.0 -
I would also like to share my experience with AA. I have been AA member for a few years now. The renewal is due in the second week of November and they have not sent any renewal document yet - as always. In the past, I had been stung by the high auto-renewal price and I had to escalate the issue within AA which got resolved ultimately.
When I called AA to make sure the policy does not get auto-renewed with a hefty premium hike and requested the rep to tell me the renewal price, he seemed least interested to do so. I was told to wait for the post to come and in case, I am interested, I can call them to renew the policy ! I could not believe what I heard. Time to move to RAC !0 -

I'm currently with the AA and now a Silver member! whoopee! The list of benefits doesn't seem to be anything I would want though.......like free homestart?
My cover is roadside - £55/yr. I really need homestart, as I have been caught out in the past and was virtually held to ransom!
Homestart is another £58, taking it to a total of £113......no thanks!
So I've gone on to a price comparison website and been offered similar from the following firms. Roadside plus Homestart all coming in at between £30 - £40.
Kwik Fit
Green
Rescue My Car
Swiftcover
AXA.
Does anyone know if any of those should REALLY be avoided?0
