  • The breakdown guide needs updating. The cashback deals for AA & RAC are no longer correct, and I cannot even get close to the £10 cover suggested.

    Hi,

If you incept an AA Breakdown policy (priced up to £50.99), Quidco are currently giving £21 cashback. With Topcashback, it is £19.19.

For an RAC policy (priced up to £70), it is £20 cashback, also via Quidco.

More options available in the guide.

  • Hi guys,
read all the thread and think I will go for AutoAid cover.
My main reason to take this cover is upcoming family trip to LA, where we have to drive 200miles to Heathrow for flight in my little Kia.
So I want to be covered if anything happened and make sure we can carry on our journey and catch flight.

I have probably very daft question, sorry in advance..:o
What is the difference between fully comp car insurance and the AutoAid or any breakdown cover?
Is car insurance just for when you have collision, theft, hire?
So if something breaks in car like fuel valve etc, the car insurance will not cover. Will the breakdown cover pay for such thing?

Any advice will be much appreciated.
    Best wins ever:

    2013: £2 000 Virgin Holiday Voucher!
2014: $1000 spending money for hols
2015: 8 night holiday to Thailand

    No.

    Neither will pay for repairs.

Breakdown cover is for when you break down on the road. They will come out to you and fix it if possible (you pay for any parts), or take you to your chosen destination, or a garage.

After that any repairs you pay for.

If you want cover for repairs and parts you need to buy a warranty.

I see! Thank you for explaining.
So the breakdown will cover towing the car to my chosen garage and pay for me possibly to carry on to Heathrow.
    That is good.
    Many thanks!

  • I got my green flag renewal through last week for £131 on a 53' Golf, which Ithought was high, especially as I had never called them out in the last 2 yearsand this included a discount. So I went on to their website and entered all mydetails in. As a new customer I could havegot the same cover for £85. On calling green flag and telling them this andasking why this was, they seemed pretty disinterested stating it was an online discount?! They said if I could proveit by sending a copy of the quote, they would match it. I’m not renewing withthem and going to shop around for a better deal. Its always best to check these auto renewal quotes, as £46 difference at the same company is a lot of money, but i've lost my trust in them and voting with my feet.

    No.

They would take you and your car to a garage but if you wanted to then go to heathrow you would have to pay your own way there.

Oh, I thought they would.. That is what I understood by their description:

"If your car can’t be repaired at the scene of the breakdown, we will arrange and reimburse any reasonable cost of taking the car, you and up to 5 passengers from the place where the car has broken down to any UK destination of your choice."
    &
"If, following a breakdown occurring more than 25 miles from home, your car can't be repaired at the roadside or at a garage during the same day and is not recovered to your home or destination, we will refund the cost of onward travel arrangements or the cost of one night’s accommodation for you and up to 5 passengers in a hotel near to where the vehicle has broken down"

Confused now, but I guess out travel insurance will cover that..

They say thay they will take you and your broken down car to "any" destination.

ie you can choose which destination they take you to (only one destination)
