Thanks to gterr for the info about greenflag.
I'm looking to get myself and my partner breakdown cover. I rang the AA earlier in the week and I've never come across such hostility. My mistake was to mention the Quidco cashback deal. It seems the AA don't like Quidco, at least, their CS are very happy to slate Quidco and you for daring to consider buying through it... and the guy at CS's attitude was enough to get the alarm bells ringing about risking taking AA cover with Quidco that may not be honoured by the AA. So they lost out on my custom (which was going to be a £165 policy), not to mention their reputation amongst the people I know!!!
I've never taken Breakdown cover before and it's a bit of a quagmire but I'm starting to understand the best deas and prices... thanks to all the helpful posts on this thread
Will definately steer cleer of AA and RAC...0 -
Is it possible to take out stand alone european breakdown cover. Have roadside with AA but want to shop around for cover for week in France.
Thanks0 -
Warning to anyone planning to go with the AA and take out the parts and labour cover.
Having broken down and taken to the garage the AA refused to payout for the repair of the car due to them not giving the garage the correct advice.
Made a complaint and the story now changes. They will make up information and tell you anything to avoid having to payout on a claim.

I went with Green Insurance for the past year, mostly because they were cheap. I have broken down twice in that year. On the first occasion the recovery firm damaged my car and have to date done nothing about it. On the second occasion I waited 5.5hrs at roadside to be recovered with misinformation from GI staff. I am awaiting their response to my formal complaint and will update the forum thereafter.0

Just another vote for AutoAid....
I've been with them two years, just renewed again.
I have a Lotus and when I needed it recovered I wanted it taken to the independent specialist I use 60 miles away. No problem at all for AutoAid. Recovery agreed there and then. Claim forms sent out straight away. All really straight-forward. Payment made within 2 weeks.
Excellent all round.0 -
RAC Arrival covers my RV, the usual issue is length (mine is 7m) but it costs me £100pa, and I only pay by cheque - never DD. their service has always been prompt and friendly, and additionally covers me in any vehicle, including my motorbikes.0

Unfortunately I do not have good reviews about autoaid. I joined based on the good reviews I had heard but have been disappointed. On the 17th June I made a claim and sent in a claim form recorded delivery. I have still not received payment and when I called them they said that the reason was that their printer had been down so they hadn't done it! Extremely unacceptable and when I suggested that some communication about the delay would have been appreciated I got nothing back.
I then spoke to the complaints department who said they were backed up and that only two of them were working. When I suggested that some communication about the increased length of time for claims would help, she stated they were too busy to do that and that the wait was the same for everyone! Whilst this may be true and she was at least more professional than the former colleague this is not what I expect and I doubt I will renew my policy. Two of my friends were just about to join and i've advised them not to based on my experiences.Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0 -
Advice please. Our renewal from AA arrived today. We have full silver cover - one car, nearly 3 years old and transit van which is 6 years old. The van has breakdown repair cover on top.
Roadside £62.72
Home start £57.74
Relay £59.41
Joint cover £41.65
Van breakdown repair cover £79.10
In total the cost is £300.62
Is it worth keeping the breakdown repair cover on the van? Has anyone used it/had any probs claiming?0
