Having a baby Old Style???

I also found a baby bath a hindrance. Someone bought me a big sponge you put baby on with 1st, with 2nd I just had her in the bath with me.
My babies have always had the smallest room with not much space. My MIL made me a nappy stacker so I could hang it from the cot end or behind the door to save packs of nappies taking up space in the cupboards/wardrobe.She made it out of some old curtain material and a cut to size old wooden hanger, and covered a piece of cardboard with material to make it sturdy at the bottom. It's been one of my favourite things babywise, must have cost pennies to make and is still in use 6 years later.0 -
Thought I'd add to this. I'm expecting our second child in the next 10 days...
Most of the things people say you 'need', you may not. It really depends on your comfort levels and what kind of parenting you're open to. With our first child, and this one, we are Attatchment Parenting, so I'll breastfeed and the little one will sleep in our queen size bed, saves me getting up to feed, change and also keeps him nice and closeThere's nothing like waking up and cuddling your family
I bought a Wilkinet sling for our first DS and we'll be using that again, they're great if you want to be close to baby and we used it until he was well over a year old (can be used up to age 3, but DS was heavy!) I also made the decision not to allow DS to be in his pram much once he could walk. As a personal opinion I can't see the point pushing a pram when they can walk, and it gives them excersise to, so after he hit two we didn't use his pram much, so a secondhand one was fine. I'd also highly recommend using freecycle if possible, as babys grow out of stuff so quick and things hardly get used, then baby stuff does come up a lot. We've already picked up a baby bath and loads of newborn+ clothes and washable nappies from our group, which is a great help, and will be put back through Freecycle once we've done with them....
Wishing you luck!0 -
I appreciate the advice, I do stop and think if I actually need things but I couldn't resist the bath - it was so cheap, plus I just had to buy something for the baby. I suppose I could always grow plants in it or something if it turns out to be a hassle. Trying to limit myself but it is difficult. I've become a crazed woman. Going to the NCT sale soon so hopefully will get some of the bigger items there cheaply. I've checked out Free cycle but not a lot available around here. The occasional item but will continue to check.
EEkkk...only 10 days? I've still got 4.5 months! There probably won't be any room left for the baby in the room by the time 9 months is up. I'll have to shove it in and slam the door shut!!0 -

message for pickle
Sorry if this has already been mentioned not read all through post
1 if going nct sale get there early as you have never seen so many people after the same things and have an idea of what you want and head strait for them.
2 If you have a local bumps to babes or something simular try and attend (i didn't when i was pregnant and regret it ) i have past loads of things on to people as your aware you only use loads of things for weeks and then have put them back in loft just in case
3 one of my best tips was look out for carboot sales that are tricky to negotiate with prams eg boggy/rocky land as this cuts the price down on baby equipment and toys as not many mums can be bothered dragging a buggy backwards or carring bub's in arms ...crafty i know but every little helps0 -
i bought a baby bath for £2 in a charity shop, then saw the exact same one for sale in wilkinsons for £2 new lol! i don't know how many babies had used it before i got it, but i have at least 2 people in the queue for using it this year. i didn't use it for long, just the first 3 weeks or so but it was handy when baby was vomiting and needing to be bathed several times a day and the sink was full of washing up and using a sponge in the big bath would have been costly and wasteful considering how many times a day i was doing it (unless of course i was also covered in vomit, in which case sharing a bath was a good idea). the sponge just about fitted in the baby bath. he soon started to love a quick shower down with the shower head in the big bath but in the early days a baby bath is useful i think, especially if you don't have a combi boiler so hot water is limited. i suppose you could just keep your sink empty of washing up though.
pickle, will your baby be ickle pickle?52% tight0 -

When i was having our son, i wanted to decorate his room cheaply- we went and bought 2 tins of paint, a self adhesive border and stick arounds for the walls, Our son got a winnie the pooh bedroom for a fraction of what the wallpaper would've cost, and now that he is moving into the bigger bedroom we will do the same in there too, only this time i think he wants bob the builder stick arounds.Pole Dancer In Training :rotfl:
