  • Make me laugh those that say Why have children!!! It will be our children that will be nursing them, delivering their meals on wheels, giving them their blue rinses and selling them their shopping trolleys in their Old age!!! :rotfl:

Post wanted adds in your local free to advertise paper,if you have one.Work out the most you want to pay then say ie- cot (Pine) wanted.must be in very good condition, can collect.willing to pay up to x pounds.portsmouth area.-

Identify the product in first word of ad,then specify type you are looking for, this will avoid lots of people ringing you up with things you dont need.Put The price at less than you think you could buy it for,and again allways specify the condition.Put the town in the ad,some of these papers cover a very wide area, dont travel any further than you have to.renew the add as often as necessary (ask it is often deleted after 2 weeks) be patient, just sit back and wait.Put an individual ad in for each item.

Has anyone thought what to do with the baby bond and investments? My thought is to put the money into the National Savings and Investment Premium Bonds (no interest but the chance of tax-free cash prizes) and then when I have saved a more substantial amt I'll put it into shares. The savings rates are very low at the moment and I can't be bothered with tax etc. Shares you can get the tax taken out I think and in my opinion are more likely to keep up with the true rate of inflation.

One tip I can suggest is JOIN EVERYTHING that's free - bump clubs like bigtummyclub (Heinz) or Tesco/Asda etc baby club you get shed loads of money off coupons and freebies - make sure you get the Bounty packs and keep the book coz often you can get two bounty packs with it as Bounty will send you a coupon to redeem at say monthercare and if you keep your previous book then there is usually a voucher for your next goodie bag in it so you can go to Boots with the other one.
The Emma's Diary goodie bags are rubbish - just leaflets with offers on for stuff you won't use or need. But they might have improved by now.
Go to the local mums and tots club and make friends there - I didin't coz I worked right up until the week before mine were due (maximum time at home with the baby then - used to only get 18 weeks when I was preg with mine)

Don't feel the need to justify yourselves any further with the "palm your kids off" brigade. You don't have to ...and neither do I! :D

    hear hear!
There will ALWAYS be people who challenge your methods of raising children.
whether you stay at home (what a waste of your education).
or go to work and have someone else look after them (palmed off - why did you bother having kids etc)

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.

  • I have three children and I breast fed them all number 3 being the longest till she was a year old, this was best for more so because she was prem, I have hardly spent any monet on her at all clothes and baby things in general are much cheaper than they were when I had the other two.
So, by the time you have your little biundle of oy it might be cheaper still.
I bought all my baby grows from tesco they wash really well and are cheap they are always doing clothes sales as well.
Our kids have always eaten what we have eaten as soon as is possible baby food is a rip off but even if you go down that route there is always offers on with these.
I also buy tesco nappies they are just as good ( i think even better that pampers) and cheaper asda ones are good too.
The even cheaper way would be to use terrys we would have used these but didn't have the funds for them at the start.
Good luck with your trying look foward to hearing some good news.

Ermm.....hate to say it:o....but....you could have saved yourself £2.47 & just used your normal bath/shower/basin!!!!!!!! Of course, if you WANTED the baby bath then thats a different story:D

Before you buy ANYTHING, think, think & think again, you really need very little (And I found using a baby bath a hinderance rather than a help:p)
