Hi.

I'm trying to call a US mobile from my UK iPhone, whilst in the US. I've got the 10 digit number. What prefix do I need?

Best regards

Best treat it as a full international call so add +1 and then the number. Your phone should then call the number , BUT you probably will have to pay interntational rates both ways, for your call to get back to the UK and then back out to the US.

    I think this is incorrect.
For example, on Orange it costs the same £1.10 to call from USA to USA and from USA to UK.

It's going to cost you a fortune, but dial just as you would from the UK. You must have roaming enabled. But, if you have data roaming enabled too, that could easily make the cost of a call fade into insignificance. Just search this forum for iPhone users hit by massive bills from trips abroad.

This is incorrect. He said he's calling a US number and he is in the US. Therefore the call remains within the US without crossing any borders. The call does not go via the UK.

It's just the billing that goes via the UK! ;)

Sorry I realise that may be the case I didn't include it as it complicated matters.

Eitherway Orange will want their pound of flesh and it be charged at the higher international rate, not a internal US call rate.

No, they charge it as their internal US rate, which happens to correspond to their international rate.

Until 2001, Orange used the local rates of visited networks plus a 35% markup. For example, they charged 6p/min for outgoing local calls on the cheapest visited network in Singapore, but this suddenly jumped to £1.30p/min when Orange introduced "simplified" prices on 01/02/2001; it was a similar story with other networks.

Sorry, let me clear things up.

I'm with t-mobile in the UK.

I'm only going to call very rarely, but I will text or picture message, as this is much cheaper than calling.

I am in the US and I've been told to try various things.

    1
    +1
    00 1 etc

    None work.

    I've googled it & can't find anything.

    Best regards.

Have you got roaming enabled and does the phone show an available network?
