8 meg is fine surely if you live next door to the exchange.....I seem lucky if I can get 1 meg, and I am only about 3 miles away! Is there anything I, or Virgin can do?

Not sure if all listers are aware of this but the distance from the exchange is ONLY relevent if you are on a BT line... the CABLE supplied (NTL) service BB speed is not dependent on this and SHOULD give stated speed - although it does vary at very popular times. There are several FREE BB speed measuring sites which will tell you your BB speed very quickly.

I'm currently on MAAF 8mb broadband for £14//month, just joined. 5gb cap and I get my full lines capacity: 5.6mb.

I've noticed Virgin's unlimited 'cap' and nice price - (would be cheaper over a yr to pay maaf £55 to leave them and mac over to Virgin:) ) Would i get the same speeds on Virgin's service or would I be better of staying with what I've got?

    thanks

Virgin Retentions seem to make the deals up as they go along!

I have been on the 10Mbit Cable package for just over a year, No other services just broadband,

Called retentions yesterday and told them I felt £35 for 10Mbit was uncompetative and was thinking of leaving,

They immediately offered it at £17.50 a month (Half price), for as long as I stayed with them, no contract extension.

SO the general rule seems to be, after a year phone retentions and just ask

I am more than happy with 10mbit at £17.50

    Hi,

    I think I have made a mistake!

I was on Virgin via a BT Line. Paid £24.99 a month for 512Kp service. Never had a problem and had nearly full speeds all the time. I swopped cos I am skint.

I swopped to the £14.99 8MB service from Monday. Today is the 1st day I have used it and I cannot even get 128Kps never mind 8MB!. I am still via BT and it includes my evening and weekend calls.

I am getting fast upload speeds of about 380, but webpages just hang.

    Will it get better?

    Regards

    Baz

I'm on Virgin 8 meg at £17.99 and have been for a while. About 3 months ago my service level dropped alarmingly, I swear dial up used to be quicker but they tell me it must be my equipment as they have no problems!

That is what they tell everyone, the bottom line is they have a contention issue.

I went through all the tests, renewed cables etc.

I have now changed to Newnet and what a difference, I get around 3,000 during the evening instead of around 200-300
and its cheaper at £12.99 although that is a light user scheme up to 3gb with an option to buy more if i need to.

    Hello,
I would like to let you all know that I upgraded my M broadband, M phone and M tv to a L tv for the same price, the new bundle is on their web site but if you don't call to upgrade you won't get it...

I also asked to get 8mbs instead of 2mbs because SKY offer it for cheaper but was told it was a cas by cas situation and could not get it.

Anyway I told her that they will soon have to do it because their price offer isnt as good as SKY at the moment. They must hear that every day, poor staff :D
