I have just received a call from the finance company whom tell me they have spoken with Unbeatable and they have agreed to send out a replacement TV and I should use the packaging from this to send back the faulty TV. So it's a step in the right direction and should free me from additional costs. I just hope that the replacement TV is & remains fault free or I will have to endure this situation again.

Is it right that Unbeatable should advise you to dispose of your packaging, then when things go wrong make it this difficult to get large goods returned?

But...... Unbeatable forgot to tell the finance company that they wanted ME to pay for the second TV. I telephoned Mathew Gauntlett (Is there something in this name) from Unbeatable expecting to hear the great news about the TV being delivered only to be told that he was sticking with his original suggestion that I must pay for the 2nd TV.

Yet another call to the finance company to explain that they must have mis heard "Mr Gauntlett" as he was sticking to his guns and I have to pay for the TV. The advisor from the finance company was laughing in the back ground as I was telling him..... I can't tell you how disconcerning it is when you have 1. The Manufacturer, 2. Trading Standards, 3. The Finance Company & finally 4. your friends and colleagues all laughing at the suggestion of purchasing a 2nd TV for the packaging.

Needless to say, the finance company once again spoke with Mr Gauntlett who's first words to me in response to this call were "I have had enough of this now, I have made arrangements with the courier company to pick up the TV unpackaged and return it to us and you will get a refund" Uhum, a refund wont be necessary as a replacement TV is what's required, thank-you for arranging to collect the TV I look forward to receiving my replacement.

It doesn't take a genius to work out what going to happen next does it....... Me think's I might be waiting a very long time for the replacement to arrive, I will still be pushing for compensation. And I will drag it kicking and screaming through the courts if I have to. What can I claim for:

    Distress
    Loss of time
    Telephone Expenses
Time without working TV for which I am paying

Is there anything I am missing, or can these things not be claimed for through the courts?

    Another Update:

Have just received a telephone call from Toshiba to inform me that the television I have ordered will be delivered next Wednesday (22.09.04). Haven't heard anything from Unbeatable yet.
  • And to think I almost used unbeatable for kitchen appliances (1.5k Order) good luck mate..

Thank-you chowster, that reminds me. I received a letter from unbeatable this morning informing about the new TV which Toshiba have already told me about, the letter was sent out 1st post but is indicative of Unbeatables 2nd rate service.

Sad to read all this. I have had excellent dealings with Unbeatable for a number of years, although I have never bought anything from them costing more than about £120.

In fact, I ordered something this week which was delivered next day. Have to hope nothing goes wrong with it now!

The television arrived last Wednesday, but havent been around since. We have had teething problems with the new TV, and I am not 100% convinced the new TV is actually fault free either. The Model number is Toshiba 42WH46P & I would be interested to hear from anyone else whom might be having trouble with this model. (May'be I'm just unlucky)....

Despite sending 2 recorded delivery letters & numerous e-mails to the MD Gary Parker, I have NOT received a response with regard my claim for loses incurred due to there inactions.

I will now point him in this direction and see if that will assist him in providing answers to the way I have been dealt with by this company.

Is there a limit (time scale) on seeking compensation from this company. The reason I ask is that I have not been able to speak / write to the MD Gary Parker as he has failed to answer any requests.

Tony. Refer back to Trading Standards and ask then to intervene as it seems this company is giving you the run around.
