I find it hard to believe that all their numerous distributors are on 50k.

I think i will take most of what hussaifa has posted with a pinch of salt.

With 16,600 distributors all earning £50k that would be a salary bill of £830 million - costing approx £1,660 per customer, then there is shareholders dividends, support staff etc etc.

We all know that UW tariffs are very expensive;) but even at those prices I think most of us would concede that is an unlikely scenario!!!

 A friend of mine rang them last Saturday afternoon and spoke to Customer Service.

I notice they have just got into the Footsie 250.

Oh come on! He only said most, so pay will only be about £415.001ish million if the other just under half don't earn anything.....

  • we switched to uw recently, mainly because we don't want the hassle of changing supplier every 6 months.

we are under no illusions, this is not the cheapest option. i can see why people could be led to believe that, but as with all sales pitches, i read it carefully and realise what we are getting. some will be getting a better deal, this is true, but i'm happy in the knowledge i am getting an average deal without the hassle.

although since changing to uw i have had many a sleepless night wondering what better things i could be spending my £1.76 a month on (!)

  • LOL. I suppose what you have to accept is it's just a one-off charge and becomes proportionately 'cheaper' the more services you take. Their broadband and phone line deal appears to be very competitive. If the Big 6 make it impossible for me to carry on switching 4 times a year for cashback purposes I may just transfer all my utilities to UW (and start shopping at Sainsburys, lol). I certainly wouldn't touch UWs mobile service as that, to me, doesn't seem a great deal at all although i haven't studied it in detail.

  • i couldn't make sense of their mobile phone deal at all, and their broadband deal seemed to be one of the most expensive around with the added bonus of no free wireless router.

Agreed about their mobile offering, very complicated (so daunting-looking I've never had a proper look, lol) but their Broadcall Plus at £24.99 with wireless router (if you are llu'd) INCLUDES phone line rental and is approximately £12/mth cheaper than the equivalent BT product last time I checked (which has a frankly scary 18 month min. contract length). Added advantage for you who take gas/elect as well is you would qualify for free 24/7 domestic/international calls (which I think include US, Hong Kong, Australia etc but I'm sure Quentin will correct me if I'm wrong ;) ). BT charge £5.95/mth for 24/7 free domestic calls, I believe.

I plumped for the £19.99 monthly version that allows 40 Gig per month and never been charged for going over that limit. I have downloaded some software, videos and music as well as the usual e-mails and web searching. SWMBO has an old mobile package that costs £4ish per month for the line rental and because of her lack of usage, the total is no more than about £5 per month. The company used to have quite a simple mobile pricing policy but I suppose nowadays they see that as a drawback.

Two weeks ago I bought over £50 worth of goods in Sainsbugs and got their voucher for 5p off a litre of fuel. That combined with the 5% of my shopping (at Sainsbury) total going against my utility bill looks good to me. After the holidays, I'll be letting the staff where I work know what is offered and see if I can get a few customers as I am still a UW Distributor. Anyone thinking of having one of the cards needs to make sure it will be worth their while as there is a £1 monthly fee attached to it after the first six months. We spend a couple of hundred a month at shops (associated with the card) so it's a good deal for us. My daughter and son in law had a look at it and decided it was not worth it for them as they do their main grocery shopping at Tesco or Waitrose.
