The thing I am surprised about with all these UW salespeople participating in this thread....

As there are said to be 30,000+ of them we don't actually get too many declaring themselves.

And those that do come now must be the mavericks, (how else to describe someone like vinnyph?), as on their own uw reps forum they are urged not to come here. ("As carmine does it for them")

The thing I am surprised about with all these UW salespeople participating in this thread is that I have asked numerous times for a quote for my services but it has been ignored each time.

    curious....

I have given them the exact detail of costs for my consumption of gas and electricity; and asked if I am correct in my statements.

UW would be £800pa more than my present tariff.

UW would be £621 more if I had to get a new tariff today.

For the average user (20500/3300kWhpa) UW are £305 or 34% more expensive.

Strange that the pro UW faction don't want to discuss these figures but prefer to concentrate on personal attacks.

I've heard more sense talked at the OP Home I've just visited than is coming from the AUWF . Who in the pro-UW camp has ever claimed that UW is for everybody?? Certainly not I. Rupert's excessive usage and refusal to use ANY sort of cashback card ('I will not use a cashback card' :p) precludes him from getting the best deal with UW. I thought this had been established a long time ago  He's MoneySaving Expert in Reverse (TM), anyone with at least half a brain has sussed him out by now...the Diane Abbott of the UW thread.

LOL. I've just discussed it and stated, in your present moneysaving state of mind (i.e. useless), you won't be better off with UW. Did you not read my post?? You really should look at using *some* form of cashback card for your retail spend, though, Rupert, if only so you don't have to go down the 'That's irrelevant' route every time someone asks you which one you use. :p

PS Apart from everything else, I suppose the fact that UW hasn't got BRITISH somewhere in its trading name also would preclude you from joining even if you COULD get a better deal with them...

Maybe one of the problems is that most members of the AUWF have circumstances that make UW not viable for them. Fine by me, even UWs most fervent supporters (myself included) have never suggested for one moment that UW is for everybody. What i genuinelycan' get my noggin around is how they can then somehow 'convert' this to 'it's no good for anyone'. That's where all credibility is lost, they just can't bring themselves to admit (publicly, at least) that UW *can* be the best option for some people. Weird.
Except we've seen that UW is massively more expensive for high users too. So no, I'm making no such assumption. You're just wrong.

Like I was suggesting, it all depends on your circs, mech. For instance, my annual cashback is looking like it will be about the same as Cardew claims that UW would charge him more for his excessive usage come the ending of his deal in April 2010. My usage is nowhere near as profligate hence I get my gas and electric cheaper than I would if i was on Cardew's almost 5 year old fixed deal. This, mech, is an indisputable fact. Plus, of course, something that you and other detractors fail to mention is that then opens up an unbeatable phone line/BB/calls option. A 40gb up to 24mb BB/phone line rental/ all calls incl. some of the most popular international destinations deal can then be had for just £19.99 per month. Another fact you fail to mention is that someone signing up for the 4 services now (actually it's just 3 required) would receive a £100 loyalty bonus after 12 months, reducing the price further.

Of course, on your miniscule spend on both groceries/luxuries/fuel this is of absolutely no use to you, a fact I have acknowledged many times previously. And now we come back to my central point - just because it's no good for you certainly doesn't mean it's no good for everybody. A fact you and most of the more entrenched detractors on here just cannot allow yourselves to concede. No idea why this is the case, I'm not you.

If I went elsewhere for my utilities I would pay a lot more.

I currently pay £591.92 in total with my discounts as listed in previous post for my usage with UWDC for upto 24mbps broadband, line rental, telephone with 24/7 free calls, gas and electricity.

The cheapest outside of UWDC would be £845 for gas and electricity with british gas and £317.76 with talktalk for equivalent broadband, telephone and line rental package including £4/month free calls 24/7 topup and £4/month upto 24mbps topup. That totals £1162.76.

That is a total of £570.84 more expensive if I moved away from UWDC.

If I moved just the energy I would loose £168 CDP discount and 24/7 free calls worth minimum £93 discount but gain £18. I would therefore be £243 worse off.

Historically, it has proved that rhetoric is not the greater of certitude.

For the Ofgem average user using 3300kwhs electricity and 20500kwhs gas this totals £1164.87 inc vat with UWDC without any discounts (UWDC midland region high user gas, standard user elecricity).

cheapest elsewhere is £894 for same usage. That's a difference of £270.87.

If my usage was this and I moved my gas and electricity away from UWDC then I would loose £227.15 CDP discount and free calls worth £93. That totals £320.15 loss in discounts. I would gain £270.187 but loose £320.15. I would therefore be £49.28 worse off.

If I moved elsewhere for everything that would be £317.76 broadband, telephone, line rental + £894 gas and electricity = £1211.76.
    With UWDC this would be

    membership fee £20.70
broadcall £239.88 (take 4 services and get free calls 24/7)
    gas and electricity £1164.87
    casback card fee £16.20
    total before discounts £1441.65
    CDP discount @19.5% of £1441.65 = -£281.12
    cashback card discount 5% of £6500 = -£325
    total including discounts £835.53
that's cheaper by £376.23 including discounts. There is also a £100 rebate for new customers of UWDC so I haven't included this.

The cheapest in this case for energy alone was Npower there are a number of points to the small print though.

The savings quoted include any discounts associated with this tariff. The discounts will be paid to you annually in arrears from your final bill of each 12-month period. To qualify, you must take your supply from npower and pay by the same payment method for a full 12 month period – this period does not have to be a Jan-Dec calendar year. Customers signing up to this tariff will receive paperless billing. Customers on this tariff are guaranteed a 2% lower bill than npower’s Standard cash/cheque bills until 31st March 2011. The guarantee applies to customers with average gas consumption of 20,500 kWh and average electricity consumption of 3,300 kWh, and includes the monthly dual fuel direct debit discount. There is a £40 cancellation fee for this tariff (£20 for electricity & £20 for gas) if customers switch away before the end date.

So in this case with Npower the discount is only paid at year end and has qualifying criteria to get. This was Npower sign online 17, recently introduced. Sign online 16 introduced a few months ago is listed on eneryhelpline at £1022 for same usage. A customer would not end up paying £894/12 per month. All energy calculations based on month direct debit.

There we go again, our self appointed moralist (or should that be immoralist) once again answer his own question and ignores what was asked.

!!!!!! has your bill got to do with quoting for mine, bit like saying your car is more environmentally friendly than mine. Technically I suppose you would be right, problem is your quoting for apples when oranges were required.
I don't own a car, I think anyone using one should think of their effect on the environment and stop being selfish. :D

So who said I was quoting for you kippen. I know you see yourself as important but why do you think I should convert from Christianity to your self concocted morals.

It's true everyone should get rid of their car. I respect your decision on that. They should also not waste electricity or gas either. Humans and livestock use more resources than cars in total. Should we get rid of all humans and livestock as well. I think a solution maybe copy Fred Flintstones car or go back to horse and cart. You could get people to ride a sheep but some might say you were trying to pull the wool over their eyes.
