To clarify the 'tenant deposit issue' ...

    DEPOSITS FOR TENANTS

To clarify the position re. tenants and deposits:

It is only Distributors who are Letting Agents, Estate Agents or Property Managers, or Distributors who are processing regular customer appications on behalf of someone they know is a letting agency or landlord, who need to obtain a £100 deposit per energy service, from their customers.

Distributors who do not fall into these categories do not need to obtain a deposit from their customers, tenants or home owners.

.... copied straight from the ID intranet (which I assume is not a 'hanging offence').

So not all individual tenant customers are required to provide such deposits - however I do seeem to recall a notice that commissions would be less for Tenanted clients rather than owners (I was less than impressed at the result and logic at the time. but as we are not active due to the other issues doesn't make much difference to my life).

A swift bit of research confirms the above ... "we therefore need to reduce the rate at which both personal and group CVC is paid on all tenanted properties by 50% compared with the current pay-plan. Whilst this change will initially only apply to new customers gathered after 1 August 2009, it is our intention to phase in this reduction retrospectively across all existing tenanted properties within the next 12 months" (just an excert from the relevant publication so, again, presumably not breaking any rules and I see no reason why either item is or needs to be 'confidential').

Good luck to them, I say. Ironic though that despite the anti-UW blog, they continue to use a UW-provided 0800 number to promote their business. Obviously not that upset about UW after all:cool:

He's a failed (lapsed?) distributor, check out his posts on here. He arrived in a puff of smoke and left in similar fashion. Been an energy consultant for many years but had never been aware of this forum before, apparently. Hmmm...IIRC his name is almost a dept store.

"Another elderly reader with family health problems also faced harassment from bill collectors when she claims not to owe money. Val Sellers, 70, of Crewe, Cheshire, said she fell foul of Utility Warehouse.
'I never got broadband to work,' she said. 'I think it will not work on our line. But I was billed by Utility Warehouse and, even though I sent a cheque for what they claimed I owed, I have been pursued by debt collectors.'
The dispute with Utility Warehouse resulted in her phone being cut off while her husband Geoffrey, 75, was in hospital for spinal surgery. Charles Wigoder, chief executive of Utility Warehouse, said Sellers was being unfair. 'She refused to ring our premium-rate technical helpline to fix her broadband,' he said. 'We let her cancel the contract and waived a number of charges.'"

    Broadband helplines criticised
    (UKPA) – 17 hours ago
Frustrated broadband users with faulty connections spend millions of pounds kept on hold by technical support phone lines, a survey has revealed.
More than 15 million calls, costing an average of £1.75, are made to technical support lines every year, according to data from the uSwitch price comparison website.
Almost half of the 12,000 customers questioned said they were not satisfied with computer technical support.
Of the service providers, Orange and Tiscali finished bottom of the satisfaction table, with ratings of 42% and 47% respectively.
TalkTalk kept customers waiting longest on hold with an average wait of 12 minutes.

Gosh they must be the only utility company in the world to make mistakes! No company in the whole world is going to get things right every single time for everybody, thats life! UW do seem generally to get good reviews for their customer service, but obviously some people will have negative experiences also. I wonder what would happen if somebody set up a thread for people to complain about the big 6, I bet it would soon fill up with hundreds of pages of complaints about poor service, inaccurate bills etc.
