  • This is getting frankly ridiculous. You can't compare with BTs LLU product because, of course, there isn't one! My local exchange is LLUd (how many aren't these days? ) so, for people like me, UWs offering is way less expensive (£123 per year!!!), way faster and has no min contract. And your comment about having to live near an exchange to get anywhere near 24mb without also making the comment that you would also have to live near the exchange to get anywhere near BTs paltry (in comparison) 8mb plus no mention of the contract length disparity (i.e no months to 18) sort of tells me all I need to know about you. Silly, pathetic, embarrassing, to be honest.

Because you dont agree with me their is no need to make these sort of comments, which quite frankly i object to.

Have you read the Forum Etiquette." Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps."

    Its just his natural style!

The best thing to do with The Troll is put him on your ignore list as several of us have done. You then only see his comments if they are included as a quote.

Actually it is quite easy to continue discussion in a thread without seeing his posts, as his input is invariably as in the same vein as the quote you included, and contributes nothing of substance to this or any other thread.

Your point about UW not comparing 'like with like' is well made.

I was in a local market at the weekend and was approached by one of their reps asking if i would like to Win a Mini. When filling in the form which asks you various questions about your utility spending, the rep said we now do Britains Cheapest Line Rental £8.99 a month and Britains Cheapest Payg Tariff 12p a minute X-Net. I pointed out to him that Toucan had been offerring £8.99 line rental for some time, and that Asda Payg was only 8p a minute X-Net. He was rather taken aback and said "thats what they told us at the conference".

    BillSavings.
I got an up to date brochure off him and it has different examples to the website, and its clearer.EG.

    20 minute Local/National Call Evening. BT 37p. Utility Warehouse.3.5p

    I hope that helps.
  • Note, ToucanTalk line rental is £8.99 a month when taken over 12 months, or £10.99 a month when taken on a month by month basis. These prices apply when line rental is taken with any ToucanTalk call plan. Not available to cable customers.

The Asda PAYG calling prices look excellent but do take care with the prices of PAYG phones from Asda. A cursory glance revealed they are asking £42.77 for the Samsung C300, whilst the same PAYG phone is just £14.99 from Orange.

I was comparing Asda Sim Card Only Call Prices against UW Sim Card Only Prices i should have made that clear i guess.

If you take out a new line out with UW they also require you to sign a 12 month contract by the way.Only moving customers with existing landlines are not tied to a contract.

I have just had a further read of the brochure the rep gave me.

It says about their payg sim i quote " ValuePay is the only Pay as you Go mobile service that offers its customers credit too! "

Virgin Mobile PAYG have been allowing customers to pay by dd for yonks.

LOL! You have to be sooooo careful in this thread :D Is the Toucan min. 12 month contract period to qualify for £8.99/mth on a just a new line, taking over an existing line or both? It's not clear to me. Paper-free billing or paper bills? TIA!

Edit: Just found this whilst digging around the toucan T&Cs:

From 1st October 2008, the connection charge on chargeable calls from landlines will change from 4.5p to 6p. This is still great value for Toucan customers as both Sky and Virgin Media charge 7p. Please note: 1. Freephone and inclusive calls - local and national (including between Toucan customers) and international (on 'All-You-Can International') will still not carry any connection charge. 2. 'Saver' customers will still pay just 3p for calls (up to 60 minutes) to local/national numbers on evenings and weekends 3. Calls using 'Talk-To-Mobile' will still cost 25% less than standard prices.

The Toucan 12 month term is for moving line rental customers, unlike UW 12 month term which is for new line customers.

By the way UW have just put up their connection charge for chargeable calls to 7p from 6p.;)

So, it's not a like for like comparison? :D Even if you take into account the £1.76/mth club fee, on a no contract and switching existing line basis (99.9999% of the market?), UW IS the cheapest home phone line rental provider in the UK market? You'll soon get used to the vagaries of this thread if you spend any amount of time in it, btw. UW must be THE most analysed utility company on these forums.

Toucan also charge their customers £1/mth for a paper bill, so on a no min contract basis that comes to £11.99 per month! Even with the £1.76/mth club fee, on a like for like basis, UWs line rental offering is £1.24/mth cheaper! That rep wasn't telling porkies, I reckon (OK, he could have said the mobile calls at 8p per min were the JOINT cheapest in the UK :D )
