Just in case any newcomer is baffled by the last few pages of contributions from those with a strong vested interest in promoting UW, all you really need to know is that UW have just about the highest gas and electricity prices in UK, and if a a relative/friend tries to tell you otherwise - do not believe them.

If you want confirmation that this is an absolute fact go to any comparison website - see those recommended by Martin on MSE.

If you believe that the all comparison websites will give you an inaccurate result if you enter kWh(the line the UW vested interests are now taking) you can still work it out manually.

I, and several other contributors on here who are not distributors of the company but merely customers, pay less for our utilities with UW than with any other. Fact. And if a stranger on the internet tries to tell you differently, don't believe them.

I for one am not stating that the switching sites are inaccurate in the sense of how they calculate the charge, merely that they don't give enough info on UWs tariff to be able to make a properly informed decision. How else can I describe it when I pay less for my utilities than with UW than any other company yet UW are nowhere near the top of the switching sites? It's actually Cardew making the claim regarding the switching sites' 'dodginess'. He even started a dedicated thread on the subject here (a thread I'm entirely sure he now regrets starting, lol).

Carmine, a 2 part question which I suspect you will avoid!

Your latest stance seems to be that Comparison websites results are unreliable. That being the case:

    1. Why do you quote their results in great detail to make your points where it suits your purpose?

    2. Do you accept that by entering in gas and electricity kWh into every comparison website places that UW is clearly shown to have just about the most expensive gas and electricity in UK?

I think you will find that is YOUR stance. This is getting bizarre.

For the vast majority of the companies on there I'm suspecting the switching sites supply a reasonably accurate 'estimate' of annual costs. There's nothing else the punter of the other suppliers can do (short of using less) to bring that cost down. UW are very different and the switching sites misrepresent them in the sense that they make no mention of the one inititaive that I and others take advantage of to get my utilities cheaper with UW than with any other supplier. In that sense they can't fairly be said to bhe giving 100% accurate info. (plus at least one of the main ones still adds in the club fee twice on dual fuel comparisons. Damning evidence there...

Gosh thats getting rather boring now - can't you think of something else to say? Or do you have this bumph saved on your PC somewhere so you can copy and paste at a later date?

In case any newcomer is wondering, i use UW and didn't have to pay for gas, electric or phone this month due to using my cashback card. If any other company can give me my utilities for free i would like to know who they are! I also have no vested interest in UW, if somebody could find me a way where i can pay less for my utilities i would gladly change tomorrow!

As Cardew has pointed out himself, the comparsion web-site will use any 'legal' means to get you to change supplier, he even started a thread on the subject recently titled - 'More Comparison Network 'tricks'

I wonder if Cardew would like to make a comment on the sentence I've bolded. Are the comparison sites accurate in janniew's case?

I doubt it. Cardew and Quentin are two sides of the same coin. The only difference between them is they are looking for different ways to denigrate the Utility Warehouse. They can't answer your question Carmine because they simply don't have an answer other than to repeat their dicredited mantra.

So you sign up to one tariff, but if you switch early, they charge you for the whole time that you've been with them, but at the standard rate? So in effect you "catch up" on the tariff differential on your final bill?

Is my understanding of that right, Carmine?

It's nonsense of course. I had a look at their T&C and couldn't find anything of the kind. Pure FUD.

FUD? Any idea why this T&C is in there then?
    6. You agree to remain on the EDF Energy Online Tariff Version 5 for each account until the Online Tariff Version 5 comes to an end, which, unless we write to you to advise of any extension, shall be 31 July 2010 (the ‘End Date’).

If, as implied by your 'FUD' comment, you are suggesting I am deliberately putting people off going with EDF as I would prefer them to stay with UW for wholly financial reasons, then why would I have started this particular thread?

Sure. It means they are under no obligation to let you switch to another EDF tariff before Online V5 ends. Ie: If an Online V6 becomes available to new customers, people already on Online V5 won't be able to switch to it.

Note that it says nothing about retrospectively charging you any other amount than the agreed Online V5 tariff for as long as you are on it. You made that part up yourself.

Take a look at rule 5.

I see no reply to the 'FUD comment. How very predictable. If you actually read what I put without the aid of the Specsavers 'Carmine is a *******' (TM) glasses you would also have noted that I suggested it was a 'worse case scenario'. But hey ho, eh? The embarrassing example of jimexbox and his total ignorance regarding one of Eon's sneakier T&Cs is surely one that should lead any potential customer to thoroughly check out the supplier's T&Cs.

Edit: So, what you are saying is that people can switch to another supplier but not to online 5s successor? That makes sense. Not.

    Because it didn't deserve one.

Doesn't matter. It was still wrong.

I suppose if I was like Carmine I would now continuously remind him how wrong he was for months on end and claim some sort of juvenile victory?
