Some of the distributors door knock to obtain sales, but tell people they are only carrying out research.
Heres a copy of the survey i recently found whilst searching net.
See: http://www.successconcepts.uwclub.net/Distributor%20Survey.pdf
The Industry Body responsible for Selling clearly states "Sales Agents must not mispresent themselves. EG Say you are calling to carry out research.0 -
Perhaps you really believe that British Gas and other suppliers will say "Go to XYZ company because they are cheaper" if asked for advice?
Of course not.
We all know that there are a number of problems with doorstep selling by other companies, that doesn't justify poor ethics.
There is a difference when you are selling to friends, family and your mothers church.
Many people don't expect their friends and family to "stitch them up" so most people would do less research of their own because they trust their family member rather than being totally cynical about a doorstep sales person.
Personally I wouldn't sell something to someone if I didn't know it was the best product for them (this is one reason I don't work in sales).
A number of my family members would not be able to do the calculations for themselves.0 -
Thanks to billsavings we now learn we could get a knock on the door from a UW rep merely carrying out a survey.
One of the questions from the "survey":The average household saves £499 per year by being a member of The Utility Warehouse
Discount Club. If you were a member, what would you use that £499 for?
We await the results to be published.
The possible answers supposedly suggested are:Car Insurance: Car Tax: Holiday Fund: Clothes Shopping: Weekend with Family: Give to Charity: Other
Another sinister question:Would you like to benefit from the best value gas and electricity in the UK?
And Nigewick thinks they are a "reasonably ethical" outfit.0 -
More from the ethical UW sales manual.
This is from their telephone call script:“Please could I ask you a question?” (They will say yes.)
“If you had around an extra £499 every year to spend, what would you spend it on?”
(Let them answer and use prompts, e.g. if they say a holiday, ask them where it would be, what type of accommodation, have they been there before, etc.. If they don’t come up with anything, suggest that it would be like having free car insurance every year, days out with the family, meals out – ask them where they would go or their favourite restaurant – get them spending the savings already!)
So you can read it with them if ever they ring you, get a copy of their cold calling script:

So dont you check before you submit the application that you are offering a cheaper?

Regarding the uw being "ethical" after we learn what is in the so called "research" questionnaire:I believe the company is, some Distributors are not.
But that survey and the questions quoted from it is from the uw:Authorised Distributor Survey
So why continue to stress your belief that uw is ethical?0 -

It appears to me that because some people have had problems with the company and a few distributors, you consider all to be the same. We are individuals and will behave differently in any given set of circumstances.
