Yep. Go with what you are happy with. I am happy with what I have got and I believe that many others would be happy with a similar deal.
Absolutely, I'm on BGs old 2010 deal and off BT's network so UW doesn't suit me at the moment. 8-9 months time and I'll be looking properly.
That said, I forget the Nectar/Clubcard too often, not sure how well I'd do with another card.

Yup, probably ture, but not comparing like with like. To be sure of the absolute winner we would have to give non-UWers a card too. So we'd be looking for a cashback card, ideally prepayment, for them to use, the charges applied, cashback percentages, and interest rate if it is a credit card

The uw card isn't the only prepaid card to offer similar discounts off shopping. But it is the only one that insists the discount has to be spent on their (expensive) products!

In fact as I keep trying to get across to the uw reps, in terms of money saving it seems obvious:

Don't buy expensive utilities then use a prepayment card's discount offers to make the utilities look cheaper.

Buy the utilities individually from the best/cheapest companies - your choice, and use the prepayment card separately and get their discounts knocked off the shopping.

The discount deals all seem to be with similar supermarkets, though getting 8% off at Waitrose also seems possible. (In addition to 5% off at Sains/Sains petrol/Asda etc).

Definitely worth it if you are prepared to do the prepayment card hassle. And you can get a safe bank/building society card where your money isn't at risk (as the uw card is!)

And no reason to see the two as interconnected as uw keep trying to convince us!

TBH, that's my worry, SJ :o The amount of times in the past I've not taken the Morrison fuel points card/Tesco clubcard/Boots card etc is very embarrassing. The only saving grace is those cards are superfluous to the actual sale going through and AFAICR I've never forgotten my debit card. We'll see...:D

The staff are supposed to ask you if you've got one. ;) At present, if somebody spends more than £10 and doesn't ask for the Kids voucher, I mention I work in a school and often they will get it and pass it on. I even check to make sure that I get the Nectar point for using my rucksack instead of taking one of their plazzy bags.

From Carminestocky, a money saving question Quentin has not answered:-

Anyway, just to come back to proper discussion. Incidentally, here's an offer, if Martin would like me to prove my identity to him and then check with UW to confirm I am NOT a UW distributor I am only too willing to do that. I'm a potential customer (currently with Scottish Power) who is looking for the very beast deal on this MONEYSAVING site. Thank you. I post again:

So, just to recap, here's the UW deal for us (pre-decrease):

    Yorkshire Region:

    Gas 15000 kwhs
    Electric 6000 kwhs
    Silver club membership.
    UW cashback card.
    Phone Line Rental.
    Up to 24mb BB
    40gb download allowance/month
    Free router
Inclusive 24/7 calls to 01, 02, 03 numbers and 10 international destinations (at the moment, could also be inclusive 0845/0870 from 1/4/09 but also means line rental increasing to £9.90 so we will leave that until we have conclusive proof).
    Free calls to CS.
12 monthly paper, fully itemised bills per year listing all 4 services we take.
    One monthly direct debit.
£10,000 accidental death insurance.(I'm not planning for my wife to be in a position to collect this, obviously!)
'Exclusive' discount offers from Prospero Magazine (no idea how good/bad these are but I don't pay extra for it so we'll see).
Projected (conservative) annual spend of £6,000 on the card at the designated stores.

Have I misrepresented anything/left anything out here? Please correct me if I have.

Total monthly DD over the course of the next 12 months: £105.
    Annual spend £1260.00

Is this beatable elsewhere with comparable services?

What happens if you remember the card but forget to top it up before you go shopping? Can they be topped up anywhere? (genuine question btw)

The cashback card spend will very probably be nearer £9,000 unless something seismic happens. That would equate to £433 net discount after card fees, I believe. Which would mean approx £1110 per year for the above. £92.50 per month....

As far as other "Pay as you go" card are concerned I believe they can only be topped up in a post offices, paypoints or online.

I applied for a splash plastic card ages ago for the cashback through quidco but never used it, as far as I remember they were the only ways of topping it up.

The card is automatically topped up every month with the ammount you request upfront.

Like one poster has stated can everyone cut the wise remarks and not let this thread end up being closed.
