So, excuse me for trying to get back to the basics, I have no use for the cashback card and am locked into broadband and phone already. So, the chances of UW being cheapest for me is next to nothing right?
From what I have read.
UW is definitely not for you, but I'm sure you already knew that, lol.Call me Carmine....

Exactly!
But its ok, UW guarentee to be "competitive" whatever that means
(more expensive in reality)Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
UW have gone on record in the past that their prices have been always been given directly to the price comparison sitesit does in fact seem that the click deals are simply short term deals. It will be interesting after april 1st to see if they change again.
Why would British Gas prices change on April 1st? They made their move in the middle of February. (Unless they plan to do the same this year that they did in 2007)Actually making the statement UW have the most expensive tariffs is a falsification, that is not true, I suggest you retract that as it is deformation of character. Its not the first time this has been an issue. Deformation through slander is a form of offensive abuse. This is against site rules and also more seriously against the law. You seem to go out of your way to try to slander the name of UW without regard or taking the full facts into consideration. There is a whole trail of evidence you leave yourself open to... Slander is damaging to their reputation.0 -
(On topic due to research purposes; not that I should have to justify it given some of the off-topic rubbish that gets posted on here, lol) Well, we are currently making our second online Sainsburys order (through https://www.mysupermarket.co.uk - that's a neat site!) and there's something not quite right. How can Sainsburys be so much cheaper than the other 3 on there?? We are only up to £28.70 at Sainsburys so far and the corresponding basket at Tesco and Asda costs £39.37 and £36.20 respectively! That means for that basket of goods Tesco is 40% dearer than Sainsburys!! Was it KY who queried on here a while ago why someone should spend £2,000 at Sainsburys to save £100 off their UW bill when the same shop would be £1600 at Tesco and £1500 at Asda? Seems like times are changing.
We would never have even considered Sainsburys if not for hearing about the UW card, TBH. If the savings continue for the next 12 months, that would be an unbelievable £800+ extra saving for us.Call me Carmine....

If I'm buying something I will find out where sells it cheapest and buy it there, not buy it from somewhere where you have to put money on a card and spend that money in another shop to get discount off what I wanted to buy in the first place.
As far as I'm concerned I dont go to any "extra ordinary lengths to save money"
I understand in your case carmine if you do all your shopping and spend a load on that card then you will get your discount and it'll make UW cheaper, I dont doubt that and dont have a problem with it.
My main gripe is that for me the card would be next to useless, the phone/broadband deal is expensive compared to what I'm paying now and the gas and electric a damn site more expensive (even if I wasnt on my fixed tariff)
I bet it wouldnt stop a UW rep trying to talk me into signing up, it also makes a complete mockery of their "Guarentee"
I cannot be the only one that this applies to either, the UW reps always come back with the arguement that "Most customers take out more than just the gas and electricity" my guess is thats because thats what they are talked into by the distributers, talked into taking something they dont need in order to make something thats more expensive cheaper?
Just doesnt make any sense to meMissing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Who cares if it makes no sense to you? I'm not you. Some of the stuff you've done to get a bargain makes absolutely no sense to me but I don't follow you round the forum telling you and everybody else that. Why would I? It's frankly rude and disrespectful and I'm of the opinion it's entirely your personal choice.
Clearly the UW deal holds no interest for you. Which sort of does beg the question; why spend so much time posting in this thread?21 out of your last 25 posts are in this thread. It's bizarre, really.
PS And why would the card being useless to you be 'a gripe'? How can something you are never going to apply for let alone use be described as 'a gripe'? A bicyle would very probably have been useless for Douglas Bader but I'm suspecting, given his positive outlook on life, he never even considered a bike to be 'a gripe'.Call me Carmine....

Carmine that wasnt aimed at you, what I meant was that in order to make the gas and electric cheaper I would have to take out the other utilities and/or use the card, that to me doesnt make sense, why not get something cheap as possible to start with?
What have I done to get a bargain that makes no sense to you?
You say you dont follow me around the forum but you certainly snoop around peoples posting history dont you? How else would you know that 21 out of my last 25 posts are in this thread? (that will be 22 out of 26 now if you are making notes)
My gripe is not the card, the expensive phone, expensive broadband, expensive gas or the expensive electricity its the fact that UW reps continously keep spouting how cheap it is and how the guarentee means its competitive, Its not and never will be for me.
As far as I was aware this thread was (and still is) entitled Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus) Discussion, without people like myself posting here (and quentin and cardew for that matter, not that I'm taking sides) this thread would be seen as a massive advert for UW the way the reps go on, me being here turns it into the discussion does it not?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Remember that UW's energy prices are competitive agaisnt standard tarrifs only and not internet tariffs. So with that yes it is competitive.

1) It's entirely your choice. What doesn't make sense to one person may make perfect sense to another person. I have already, unlike the vast majority of the detractors on here, given facts and figures why UW (directly or indirectly) will make me approx £1,000 better off per year than previously. These are facts and figures that are hard to argue with. You haven't given me facts and figures to back up your claim that your shopping habits will be at money saving at that, just a bit of waffle about you shopping where it's the cheapest. I have shown you that I'm shopping at the cheapest place for our needs, and the fact that we can also get 5% of the spend knocked off our utility bill, making it by far the best deal on the market for us, is the icing on the cake. No?
2) I really don't want to go there but if you persist...lol.
3) On the life of your kids (nephews and nieces if you don't have kids)..can you categorically state you have never checked out my posting history? Come on, be honestIt's what I call the ultimate hypocrisy-o-meter and can have real successes - witness the frankly pathetic behaviour of dacouch and his attempted entrapment the other day. Yes, I checked his posting history and, let's be honest, didn't he deserve it?
4) Why would that even bother you if you have already admitted you will NEVER use the service? I haven't seen you supporting the posters in the npower sculpting thread who have been scandalously done over by the company. I've tried to do what i can. Why so obsessed with putting people right about UW? Don't you trust the people in the G&E forum to be able to think for themselves? If not, I genuinely think that's disrespectful. To be fair to myself here, the reason I raised that point was because you specifically said the card WAS your gripe. I'm not a mind reader. My main gripe is that for me the card would be next to useless..
5) Absolutely spot on. You are free to post where you wish, of course, I was merely pointing out what I perceived to be the apparent imbalance in your involvement in the other threads compared to this one. But post away...Call me Carmine....
