It sounds like your boss is a pain. Write everything down, inc time and date of calls, even if the message was left on an ansaphone, there would be a record kept from the employers side, eg BT.
I had the same with my ex employer, as I went off sick while pregnant, due tothe hassle, I resigned, but tookfor unfair constructive dismissal, after 2years of tribunal hearings I took an out of court settllement, long route.
If you aresigned off by the doctor, then do not go into work until the sicknote is up, otherwise if you went back early and something happened, the company will not be liable. What you are suffereing is harresment, ring HR,tell them the situation, you are covered by a doctors note. Also if youfell that you are being singled out, contact acas, as they can give you some guidelines.
Good luck, keep your chin up. xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Is there any way your boss could of confused you with another staff member, maybe one who works similar hours to yourself? If so i would point that out to him. Do you enjoy this job or is the means to an end? If so I'm sure another company would value you and your skills far more than this company does. Don't allow him or anyone else to bully you but keep an eye open for other jobs with the same hours, might be a good move.0

By telephoning you twice in a day when you are ill and leaving messages - this can be seen as harrassment. Your doctor is the professional - not him.
do you have union at work to consult? if you are ill then you are ill, and you;d only make it worse by going in - or giving it to someone else
He can't expect you make the time up for being ill
What did the lady from HR say? You may be able to get a list of sickness dates from them to show him0 -
I saw a similar question to this in my union magazine. The reply was:
"A manager has both a right and a responsibility to maintain contact with a colleague who is off work ill. However, this contact must not be of a harassing nature and the views of your medical advisers should be respected.
Make it clear to your manager that you regard the content and frequency of the calls as intimidatory and unless a mutually agreeable way forward is agreed, you will be making a complaint. "
Obviously this was to a union member for a certain firm, so may be different. But the same thing about leaving you to rest when ill.0 -
As far as I know there is know union...I will be calling HR in London tomorrow to find out exactly how often I have been off and it is noway near what is being imposed!.
The contact would have been fine if it was about how long I think I will be off or what is the matter with me or sorry you are ill but please come in when you are well....but it wasn't anyting like that it was straight forward - you have been off sick to much....I'm getting concerned about that and you will need to work a full day tomorrow! He know's this isn't possible because of chilcare issues....the pressure is so unnessary! I'll be getting the cold shoulder when I get back but I'm just annoyed and angry about all of this.

changkra....I'm the only one who works these hours. Its doubtful that he confused me with someone else. I think he is trying to get at me and make me feel bad. He is the type of person who would expect me to make the time up for being ill. I need the job and cannot be without one. I'm going to have to start looking as it's very awkward working for someone like this!

In fact, if you have a medical certificate from your doctor, your employer is breaking the law by allowing you to work, never mind requiring to you do so ...
HR should know what's what, but if in doubt, ACAS are pretty good on this kind of thing.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Savvy_Sue I have a doctor's note....and I was prepared to change it if I felt well enought just to get back and keep the peace. I don't feel any better and will see how tonight goes but if I'm still being sick tomorrow I will call HR and ask them to contact him to say I wont be back until next week. I#m happy to send it in to them in the meantime if they want!
