The little to$$er should be made to pick litter up until he has paid every penny back to his debtors. I hate this and what many people don't realise is that EVERYONE pays in the end.
I am sorry to say you won't get a great deal of sympathy from these forums...
No you won't more's the pity, but come back and say you have to go bankrupt because you are owed so much money that you can't pay your own bills or feed your own children and you will get support, advice and sympathy.
Disgusting that your sort of situation is allowed to happen. Personally I would put a debt notice in my local paper, at least it will warn any other trader0 -

Would be interested to hear what alternative solution you have for bankruptcy?0 -

What's all this about? Who should be wearing whose shoes?
Do you want the OP to wear a bankrupt persons shoes? If she suffers many more losses of 11% of her years income then I suspect she will have her own bankrupt's shoes to wear and won't need to borrow anyone elses.0 -

No I don't have another solution but the poor woman is obviously distraught about a huge hit her families fledgling business has taken and she is told how hard it is to be a bankrupt, and that she should feel sorry for people who go down this road.0 -

Go to a business board and you might get that but it's hardly likely here to be honest.
What your post actually should have said was 'I'm mad at people like you who go bankrupt so I'm going to whine about it and expect you to show the remorse that my debtor didn't'.
I think that's nearer the mark personally.
I never asked for any sympathy.
I mearly asked whether anyone in the position of being bankrupt/about to go bankrupt/in debt ever considered what it was like to be on the other side.
So there is no need to be rude. I havent been rude to you.;)0 -

I was trying to say that we should all try to see it from the other person's viewpoint.
I have sympathy for the OP losing 11%. In fact, my late FIL was put out of business through someone not paying for work he had done, so I know from close up what that is like. It is disgraceful that this man ordered the work knowing he would not be able to pay.
However, I do not think that most people who have to take the bankruptcy route do it lightly, and I know if it was me I would do my d****dest to pay a small business before doing so.
I don't think my views are anything special, but if it got to the point where it was feed my son or pay a bill, well I'd feed my son. Anyone would.
All I'm saying is....well really what I said in my first post.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

I dont think anyone asked her to feel sorry for anyone going bankrupt.
Just simply pointing out its not just someone running away from their debts and responsibilities. It has severe repurcussions.
Now everyone understands what she was asking (if anyone considered the other side?) I said no, someone else said yes.
But as pointed out in an earlier thread, my estimate is that most of the creditors involved in bankruptcy are big banks maybe 99%?
Now lets move on.0 -
I did not come onto here to cause an argument - I just wanted a few opinions - and thats what I got!!
I would feed my kids first too and it might be easy for me to say, but I would hope that I would pay EVERYONE, not just small businesses. One day I hope to have a big business and I hope that I am just as worthy of getting paid then too.
Sorry if my opinion differs to others - I do not wish to offend anyone.
I do understand that there is a lot more to it that just deciding to go bankrupt, so dont all start having a go at me again.
Thanks to the few people who seem to understand what I am going through and have given me some words of support - that has helped me a lot as I have been very worried and stressed about all this.0 -

Sorry about that, but I really do detest platitudes. No reason to have a go at you though.0 -
