Hi all
Just need some advice on which handset to get. I'm currently with T-mobile, my minimum term came to an end in October, I have a HTC Desire.
I called T-Mobile about a month ago, to see what they could offer me, at the time I was interested in iPhone 4S, I didn't want to pay more than £31 per month and wanted at least 300 mins and 100 texts per month. T-Mobile didn't offer me anything and simply gave me my PAC straight away. The PAC is now expired and I have been doing a little research into the above handsets
Reason for wanting an iPhone, I've never had one before, it holds it's value. I know people go on about Android and the Galaxy SII, I have been checking out prices and am somewhat socked that although the handset is nearly a year old it's not soo much cheaper than an iPhone 4S that mobiles.co.uk are offering for £31 per month on Vodafone.
Google Nexus, I'm suprised that this hasn't had too much publicity it was only released late December I think but again like the Galaxy SII the prices don't seem to be much cheaper than the iPhone. I know the SIII might be released in the next few months which might drive down the price more.I'd rather get a new handset sooner rather than later, ideally away from T-Mobile since they couldn't offer me anything...
I guess my question is what should I go for, I know the iPhone is a closed system, I'm not too fussed about screen size, which handset will hold the highest value in say 2 years time.
Thanks.

I got my galaxy s2 on t-mobile about 6 months ago, handset was free and contract is £25 a month. I very much doubt you could get an iphone on a similar deal. You'll pay a couple of hundred more i suspect.
I had a HTC Magic ages ago and then switched from android to iphone and lasted 3 months with it, i found it so frustrating and gave it to my wife and got myself a HTC Desire which i had for 18months before switching to the SGS2..TESCO EVERY LITTLE change to the t&cs HELPS0 -
I got my son a Galaxy SII on 3 for £20 a month. 900 mins, unlimited texts 1GB internet

Looking on a well known auction site the 4s is fetching about £100 more than the S2, however in 2 years time, both will be next to throwaway. I suppose (begrudgingely) they are equally as good for different reasons. As the S3 is just around the corner then that maybe the wiser choiceif you are really thinking you may get some great cash back for the handsets in 2yrs time. If you go for the 4s then at least I can think of one new best friend you will have via MSE, personally out of the handsets you have listed I would still choose the Sony Xperia S :cool:0 -
First main point is to go for Androi or iPhone os?
Both os have good and bad points, you need to think of what you need from a phone.
iPhone:
Closed os so you cannot make changes to way it look. All iPhones are the same.
Updates are available the same day for all current and some old phones.
All apps work due to same screen size.
Tomtom satnav available for iPhone
Android:
Open system so you can make changes to the os.
Malware problem. You have higher chance, search in google android malware
Many apps don't work with all phones due to screen size and many os versions.
The os update may not be available for 4-6 months.
Phones are cheaper
If you check eBay you will see that iPhones holds more value in 2nd market than others. Check the price for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4
Check all three phones and see which one you like0 -

Phones value maybe more in 2 years but how much extra a month will it cost you?
You should easily be able to get the S2 for under £30 a month. I pay £30 and get 900 minutes unlimited texts, internet etc.
S3 cannot be far away though, Leaked pictures around that maybe fake though?
My S2 is great.
thegoodman will one ever say iphones are best. Hes been brainwashed with the other sheep
I wont get into which one is best because thats a personal thing, What's best for me may not be for you. But ignore the talk of malware unless you download stuff from dodgy russian sites and tick the box to allow install from anywhere. At least you get the choice.
I get paid for apps from getjar for free, Or directly from the programs creator for less than the market price.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

New phones still come with android os 2.3, released over a year back.
Android v2.3 is mighty fine already :cool:0 -
Just to add something else into the mix - why not take a look at the range of WP7 phones?
IMO - a great operating system, but again it's all subjective, because it's all individual personal preference.0 -
Talking to my local VF store manager at the weekend, he said VF were currently testing the SIII and expected to release it June/July.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I'd say ignore all the rubbish about malware on Android too, had my Galaxy SII about a year now and have never had any trouble with malware and I download apps and games from all sorts of places not just the market.
If you are worried about it I'd recommend Avast! Its free and it will protect against Malware/virus and has a really good anti-theft system that will hard code itself onto the phone (although thats only if you root your phone) so it cant be removed by a system restore.
If you are worried about the SIII coming out then dont bother with the iPhone either as iPhone 5 is rumored to be out later this year.
Its all down to what you want the phone for, my experience with iPhones is that they are good with apps and music but dont function very well as a phone (poor signal compared to other phones on same network in the same place)
I personally think apps run better on my SII than on an iPhone (I've had both) and the screen on the S2 is amazing, I regularly use it to watch movies and BBC iPlayer etc.
As for Tomtom not being available on Android, thats laughable because paying for Satnav apps is just a waste of money IMO, google maps and navigation works great, I cant believe people bleat on about saving money on their phone/contract then waste money on an app like that.. not moneysaving at all.
I was a little worried I would break the SII at first as its so slim but its been fine and still looks as new (it gets shoved in my pocket with no case or screen protecter on it and still no scratches or anything..)
And as DUTR says, Android 2.3 is fine, I'm in no rush to upgrade..Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!
