Aw thanks, yes it is horrible, but I work for a charity and that is how it is these days - funding is so tight for everyone. I am reasonably sure I will have another 6 mths contract (I do the bookkeeping so I know the figures) - fingers crossed.

Fingers AND toes crossed for you.

    hiya Mystic,
You may already do this, but I always avoid the bag of lettuce leaves as they are expensive and they don't last v long. Instead I buy the whole lettuce. I also, as much as possible, buy leaves that are in season.

I've recently been experimenting with adding apples and sultanas to salads as the tomatoes aren't great at this time of year.

I'll willing post my recipe for spicy apple rice salad and or couscous salad if you're interested?

Long term I've just planted some salad leaves, but as the slugs got everything last year :o I'm not holding my breath :)

    hi everyone

i am new to the site and this sort of challenge! after reading what some spend on food i feel ashamed to say my spend for two adults is usually around £260.00 on average but can be anywhere from £180.00 to £320.00 based on this should i base my budget anually?

payday today and already spent £27.90 on just a bit of salad and fruit! any ideas how to make some cheap lunch time salads? i read the recepies and couldnt really see any salads?

    thanks

    mystic

Oh bless, dont feel ashamed, Re cheap salad it really does depend on what you like and what you are including in it. Do you have a garden, windowsill? Salad leaves are so cheap tp grow, but if no growing space a living lettuce is only £1.29in Asda and potted up on a windowsill will give weeks of leaves,a few mustard and cress
    seeds will give you loads,

I'm jumping back in this month!!!

    Please put me down for

    zepsgal £220

My DH has decided we will be having no sweets etc in April, so I'm knocking £30 off last month's budget (we have been over budget the last few months :o). Hopefully this is what we need to get back on track with spending!

    May I join in please?

I've been lurking around these pages since the turn of the year but have now decided to take the plunge and join in.

I'm in a lucky enough position to have cleared my debt and car loan is completely paid off as well :T. So I am now saving towards a deposit. :)

I work shifts (days/nights) and find that i quite often end up either buying food in the canteen or from garage on way to work. And even the dreaded vending machines in the middle of the night when nowhere is open :(

Which is stupid as i have a freezer full of hm soups and meals ready to be zapped in micro and eaten!
So basically i need to have a bit more self-control and try not to spend spend spend!:rotfl:

I'm going to set myself a budget of £100 for this month as im not really sure how much i will need!!!

    Wish me luck!
  • Just added on another £20 to signature - 33 in Mr T on babybels and bananas and the rest in the Co Op on reduced meat and cocacola. I was hoping that as I had purchased 3 lots of the diced chicken breasts that the discounts for 3 for £10 would kick in but it didn't unfortunately. Still, not bad I suppose at £2.40 each.
