I am declaring £141.57 for April. I had to go out this morning for a birthday card and also did an Aldi fruit and veg. shop. That was just £7.79 but I could hardly lift it as there were 10 lemons, 1kg bananas, 500g grapes, 7 apples, 2 pineapples, 700g tomatoes and some pitta bread. What value!
I am just over target this month but it's been caused by having to buy a whole tank of petrol just-in-case, rather than half a tank at a time. I'm quite pleased with how I managed and will put down £140 for May although I will be away part of the time and will have to use my holiday budget for the additional food and petrol involved.
Good luck everyone - May's a fresh start, literally!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Morning all. Wet n windy here.
Still not sure what to make for tea. I am toying with the idea of a spicy lentil and carrot soup? Fruit pie for after maybe?
None of my recent whoopsie hunts have resulted in meat and I refuse to pay full price for it.
I do have many casserole steak packs in the freezer and lots of turkey mince but I always think that turkey meat looks anaemic in a cottage pie or lasagne etc. Any ideas for the best way to use it?
I might slow cook some casserole meat today for meat and potato pie fillings later in the week perhaps?
On a day like today, I just wanna curl up in cosy surroundings. Heating may have to go on later.
Have a great day peeps.:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

morning all, jumblejack we and when i say we i really mean i, use turkey mince to make homemade burgers and or meatballs, i mix the turkey mince with some breadcrumbs, onion, garlic and whatever spices come to hand & an egg. from a pack of mince i can make burgers for the 4 of us and some meatballs. burgers are served in hm rolls and are nice with cheese and bacon served with wedges & salad. the meatballs we have with hm pasta sauce & pasta. hope it helps though perhaps someone else might come along with something more exotic:)Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404

MR F stood there - dripping blood - now I smell of dettol!
Good job I am not scared of blood! It is like looking after a child. Mr F is so clumsy - dog pulled him - he spun round and went flying - got an inch long gash in his eyebrow.
I have patched him up!
Florenceem i have been reading the thread backwards and have just seen your post, i hope Mr F is feeling better this morning, and yes i find they are very much like kids i always say when asked how many i have - 3 lads.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404

Today is SUPPOSED to be a NSD due to the terrible weather, but was woken up to the sound of drip drip drip and discovered a leak in the flat roof of the kitchen
Rain was torrential at the time and wind was very strong so hoping it is down to the extreme conditions.
Feeling very glum about it - yesterday I was thinking how well I was doing on my own after the end of my 30+ year marriage.....but it is times like this that I wish someone was here to sort stuff out for me.:(:(
Not that ex would have been any help though, if I am honest
Anyway - onwards and upwards and hoping for dry weather soon!
I had granola and greek yog for breakie.
Have a small loaf in BM and found a little tin of M&S ham left from a glitch on their Christmas hampers (it's YEARS since I had tinned ham)......it used to be a luxury when I was a little girl
Tea will be LO rice cooked yesterday, egg fried, and some chicken I defrosted with some LO chilli sauce.
I have a big pot of lasagne meat & veggie mix cooking which was supposed to be for tomorrow.
But I had forgotten eldest DD and her BF were coming to tea and I had promised a roast, so will chill it when cooked and plan on lasagne for Friday instead.
I have an Ic*land stuffed turkey breast I bought YS/whoopsied last week (£3 from £6) and that should do roast tea on Thursday with some left (I hope) for my lunch on Friday.0 -
Hello All,
For anyone who lives in Wales, the volunteer run Food Co-ops that run in schools, work places and community venues are a great way to save money on your shopping bill. Mixed bags of fruit, veg and salad are available from around £2.50-3 per bag and all the produce comes from a local business. Its a Welsh Government funded scheme and its a not for profit scheme that is sustainably run through volunteers. The only people who make money are the local businesses who provide the produce. As a development worker for the scheme, I regularly use MySupermarket to compare the contents of the bags to the major supermarkets and they are always cheaper from a food co-op. Details on your nearest co-op can be found by googling 'RRU Food Co-ops' I hope that helps some of you with shaving the ££'s off your bills.:)0 -
Hi everyone
Seems like ages since ive posted. Ive got £25 to last me to the weekend when the May budget will come into play. Doing really well at emptying the freezer. Had some lovely dinners as I found some salmon and a packet of frozen finest king prawns, the kids were very impressed. Decided to dig out my old breadmaker to see how I go on with using it.
We dont need much to last til the weekend, some more fresh fruit, veg and milk should see me through and whatevers left will get used to stock up the pantry as thats getting really low at the min.March 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000 -
