eBay are not the only ones who protect the buyer, UK law does as well.unhappy_ebay_seller wrote: »Im not a blogger, writer, etc. however what ive been reading is true. Ive been a seller/buyer on ebay for 5 years, i have 311 100% positive feedback.. Recently i sold an item for $300 and shipped to a buyer with 10 100% feedback. When the item got there it was broken. The buyer said i didnt pack item correctly, box wasnt marked fragile, and i should have insured it. Just because ive done alot more business on ebay dosent make me right, i know this!! But i went to the postmaster and we reviewed tape showing the usps employee marking all 6 sides...so right away the person lied..i packed the item same as i have for 5 yrs. and when a buyer wants insured they request it!!! not me..After i faxed ebay a letter from my postmaster stating what video showed they still sided with the buyer!! they want me to pay back $300 and sent me my broken item back...lol this was completely unfair and i spoke to 6 diff. people noone would help!! Ebay ONLY protects the buyer..sellers cross your fingers!!! I QUIT THEM ALL TOGETHER.. God bless
Seriously, you expect a buyer to need to insure a parcel against a seller unable to pack properly or for a courier who is a bit heavy handed? I am quite shocked that anyone would expect a buyer to need to do that.
Insurance is for a seller o ly, *they* pack the parcel and they choose the courier. If they want to be protected against damage then they need the insurance.
I think you are actually in the US with the wordiing you use and I am glad to see your US laws are as good as our British ones in protecting the buyer who is completely reliant on the seller don't forget.
As a seller myself I am very glad that buyers realise they have protection when buying online as that can only aid my business, not harm it at all.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. So you believe that if a buyer receives something damaged it is their fault?unhappy_ebay_seller wrote: »Im not a blogger, writer, etc. however what ive been reading is true. 311 feedback in 5 years is not experienced. No previous complaints is lucky.
If your item was packed well with no possibility of being broken your problem is with USPS and not the buyer. I would have thought that for a $300 item you would have had insurance. What would have happened had it not arrived, would that be the buyer's fault too?.0 -
@unhappy ebay seller you refund the buyer and file a claim with the postal service you used to send the item. They will try and get out of paying it but if they have been negligent (e.g. using a parcel as a football) they should pay out insured or not. They know proof is hard to get so they fight hard to avoid paying out. If the buyer is lying then that may be fraud. Paypal/Ebay aren't the end of the story, certainly in the UK you still have rights to pursue fraudulent buyers through the civil and criminal courts whatever ebay/paypal decide.0

I'm assuming the situation is the same in the US as it is here and if you are not insured then you can't start insisting on a payout if your item gets damaged , that's what insurance is for. A seller who opts not to bother is obviously aware of the gamble they are taking. They can hardly complain when the gamble fails.
Oh and the leap to the buyer being fraudulent- I suspect online selling might not be a good idea for you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. USPS are pretty clued up on all things Ebay, much more so than Royal Mail, so I'd assume they have a system in place for damaged items.I'm assuming the situation is the same in the US as it is here and if you are not insured then you can't start insisting on a payout if your item gets damaged , that's what insurance is for. That said, they do provide their own (free!) packaging, so they may have different rules if that isn't used..0 -

In what way?
I had a quick look and it looks pretty similar

I know from using it that they are better in touch with Ebay than Royal Mail. For example standard post can be tracked when bought through Paypal with just the stamp barcode.
Giving out free packaging is a bit more forward thinking than RM, I doubt Royal Mail would ever think it as being cost effective..0 -

I doubt RM would be allowed to do it
You really need to step back and compare apples with apples
USPS has a closed market and is still trying to shed staff/cut costs0
