Sorry Wen - Just seen the notification for this.
Is this still happening? - It can happen sometimes (unrelated to your original problem), and usually rights itself.
If not, try following the steps here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2838070 -
Hi Waddler sorry been mad busy with work have tried following the steps on the site above and still no luck, the show pictures box was already checked and i have reset the security settings as it suggests. The good news is the virus has gone though lol
Thanks

From the Microsoft support link above, did you try the compatibility view part under "I can’t see pictures on a specific website" at all?
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/webpages-look-incorrect-in-Internet-Explorer
Also, try a different browser and see if the images display in that.

Since you installed Spybot Search & destroy, have you used the immunise feature at all?0 -

just downloaded firefox and I can see everything again. I know I'm being a bit thick but is that ok to use permanently as a browser? I have heard of it before but never used it.
Thanks

Yes, you can use it permantly if you want - at least it narrows the issue down to it being a specific problem with Internet Explorer, so any troubleshooting steps can focus around that.
There's lots of information about the browser (firefox) on the site I linked to - help with settings, add ons to enhance your browsing experience etc - and of course I'm sure there are always people willing to help out here.

You can set it as your default browser if you wish:
