    Hey y'all,

So over the last couple of weeks I've been browsing in Game and noticed they're offering pre-owned Wii consoles for £39.99. That seems quite cheap but looking at the deal on the item card, it included an asterix next to things that aren't available with the item (remember some of those to be the ethernet device/connection and memory?)
Well I'm no expert on the Wii console (see examples above) but I do know that to play LoZ:Skyward Sword game I'd need a controller with Wii Motion Plus. Thinking that I could take advantage of the 'firesale' I thought if I offered them cash for a Wii, controllers with Wii Motion Plus and the LoZ game, that I'd get some discount since they are in trouble and weren't offering warranties.?

the wii has a built in wifi capability so you don't "need" an ethernet connection although you can get a LAN adaptor for them. the wii has a built in hard drive too (can't remember the spec) you can buy memory cards for them but they store a lot of games on it, you only need a memory card really for gamecube games and then you'd need a gamecube memory card.

not sure why you think you'd get a discount offering cash? it still costs a company money to pay someone to cash up and go to the bank.

So...why do people constantly seem to expect that they deserve a discount for paying in cash? I know credit card companies take a certain percentage of sales, but if credit card company takes say, 3% of a sale, giving someone a discount, even by 3% means that the company makes no more than if you'd paid by card, and I doubt the consumer would really care if it was a 2 or 1% discount.

Sorry, who expects a discount for paying cash? Must try that in Asda tomorrow.

The only common occurrences I'm aware of for cash discounts are workmen who can save a good sum by not putting work thtough their books.

Zeldarino expected a discount. I also get asked a lot at work, "what discount do I get for paying in cash?"

    Nothing. You get nothing.

Fair enough. Strikes me as odd that people would even ask.

Don't know if it's regional or generational. It's mainly older people who ask, and middle aged cockneys lol.

The name o the game is also on the spine of the case, so it's not too bad. That was where we used to be told to put the sticker when I worked for Gamestation. And it's in the same place on all titles for neatness.

And the cash thing always gets me too. I've put items up on Gumtree before, advertised as cash on collection. I put my old phone up for £300 ono, and had people saying "I can give you £150 cash" or "if I can have a discount of £100 I'll pay cash today"
Well no sh*t Sherlock, how else would you pay me?! I've already stated its cash on collection only.
It also astounds me at people's ideas of what a 'near offer' is.

Although, that said, when I worked at Gamestation, we could get the manager's permission to do deals for customers, and if there was a pricing issue like new & pre owned games at the same price, we could reduce the price.
Bear in mind that staff can (or could) buy pre owned consoles an games at 30% discount.

Most people that buy games for themselves probably. Not the old dears who are buying them for their kids/grandkids. Also, would you expect an old game to be positioned at No. 1?

It would highly depend on the game & format - for example i'd expect a game now approaching 6 months of age to be number one in the Wii chart with one approaching 12 months to be at number two.

yeah I worked at gamestation for 6.5 years and it was the same for me too - thats just how the stickers on all games were. we used to give customers 10% off via the student discount code sometimes to give a better deal with the manager's permission too.

We went to our local Game store last night because my daughter still had a gift card she was given at Christmas and I had points on my reward card. I've never felt so sad for retail staff as I did last night. My daughter wanted a new Wii game and still didn't have one that she wanted in mind as she had got a few for Christmas anyway so found it hard to choose something even though the shop was still well stocked. MrM had wanted Mass Effect 3 which he was going to use points against. We asked a member of staff if they had any and she told us very honestly that they weren't able to stock it due to credit problems. The poor girl was about to cry and bearing this in mind I can't believe that someone would go into any store and point out to members of staff that their firm is in administration!
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Oooh, a lot of back biting since I last checked out this forum.
    Ok, the cash 'issue'.
I didn't actually offer them cash for any item although that was a thought I'd had before going in-store.
My reason for thinking they'd take cash was that, if the company were to go out of business within 24hrs or less (which didn't happen then but maybe soon?) then they'd receive guaranteed payment without me, as a buyer, cancelling the card transaction on account of fraud or whatever reasons I'd want to. (And before any MSE marks 'inform' me that's not possible, then you're not as smart as you think.)
